About the role
The Patient Transporter functions within the guidelines of South Shore Health’s policies and procedures. They provide prompt, courteous, customer service to patients, visitors, and co-workers, working collaboratively with other team members and ancillary departments.
Responsibilities
- Safely transports patients between departments (radiology, PACU, medical surgical units, and emergency department) using stretchers, wheelchairs, and beds.
- Maintains a safe, clean, and orderly patient environment.
- Monitors the safety of the behavior management patient, checking for Blue for Behavior bar on patient room placard.
- Assists with patient transfers using specialized equipment like slide boards and gait belts.
- Transports lab specimens from various areas to the Laboratory using universal precautions.
- Communicates clearly with nursing and clinical staff, informing departments of patient departure and return promptly.
- Ensures proper labeling of patient belongings and coordinates with clinical staff.
- Utilizes software applications required by department and unit standards, and maintains awareness of patient belongings.
- Answers the phone and dispatches services when needed, prioritizing the nursing department's needs.
- Logs calls appropriately if covering the Dispatcher position.
- Provides a high-level of customer service to patients and staff in a professional, service-oriented, respectful manner.
Requirements
- Previous hospital experience preferred but not required.
- Ability to communicate verbally and in writing in the English language.
- Ability to move or lift patients and equipment.
- Knowledge of infection prevention guidelines and ability to follow them.
Qualifications
- Minimum age of 16 at the time of filing an application.
- High school education or equivalent preferred.
