About the Role

The Assistant Dispatch Manager oversees the Dispatch department in conjunction with the Dispatch Manager, acting with the same authority under their direction. This individual works closely with Dispatch Supervisors to ensure flights are completed in a timely and quality manner by drivers. This complex, management-level position requires strong leadership to develop, train, and hold team members accountable while driving the department forward. The role demands a self-starter with a strategic vision and the ability to execute through others.

Responsibilities

  • Supervisory and Management
    • Supervise and manage all employees in the department.
    • Motivate and inspire team members to exceed expectations through recognition programs.
    • Ensure compliance with Newrest and client policies and procedures.
    • Communicate effectively with crew and team members.
    • Hold team members accountable for expectations.
  • Operations/Logistics
    • Ensure compliance with government regulatory standards (FDA, USDA, OSHA, EPA, DOT, HACCP, etc.).
    • Investigate and document incidents/accidents.
    • Monitor service operations, enforce ramp/AOA safety and security rules, and report violations.
    • Provide solutions to problems during transportation, unloading, offloading, or other processes.
  • Quality, Health, Safety, and Environment (QHSE)
    • Ensure compliance with product/service quality, environmental, food safety, and health/safety regulations.
    • Support integrated management systems (IMS) with necessary resources and competencies.
    • Uphold environmental and social responsibility per the Be the Change CSR charter.
    • Promote a safe work environment by preventing injuries, eliminating hazards, and reducing risks.
    • Facilitate employee consultation and participation in health/safety systems.
    • Drive continuous improvement in IMS performance.
    • Communicate the organization’s vision, goals, and performance internally and externally.
  • Human Resources
    • Interview and select candidates for the department.
    • Approve time off requests and leaves of absence.
    • Conduct performance reviews for team members.
    • Approve timecards and resolve discrepancies.
    • Mentor, coach, and provide corrective actions as needed.
  • Regular and timely attendance is expected.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Operations, Logistics, Business Management, or related field (preferred).
  • 5–7 years of experience in inflight catering, airport hub environments, manufacturing, logistics, or food industry, with a focus on managing employees.

Skills

  • Strong leadership experience, particularly in turnaround environments.
  • Excellent communication skills, adaptable to all organizational levels.
  • Ability to handle conflict and de-escalate emotionally charged situations.
  • Good understanding of OSHA, HR, and employment laws.
  • Knowledge of investigation procedures and root cause analysis.
  • Understanding of lean manufacturing principles and operational processes.
  • Strategic thinker with creativity and strong problem-solving/decision-making skills.
  • Resilient self-starter who acts independently and learns quickly.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to see the big picture.
  • Proficiency in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Excellent organizational and motivational skills.
  • Strong analytical skills for data interpretation and risk management.
  • Ability to collaborate with site operations, functional leaders, clients, and vendors.

Physical Environment

The role requires constant sitting and exposure to loud noise. Occasional physical activities include:

  • Standing, walking, bending, kneeling, squatting, climbing stairs/ladders, and reaching overhead.
  • Gripping objects, driving a company vehicle, and pushing/pulling/lifting up to 25 pounds.

The position is primarily indoors with occasional outdoor work. Employees may be exposed to high/cold temperatures, fumes, dust, chemicals, and heights up to 20 feet.
