About the role

The contractor will be expected to be in office two days a week according to which rotation they are placed on. This contractor will work as a Disease Intervention Specialist/Public Health Rep 4 alongside existing STI staff to ensure interviews, partner services, testing and re-testing of patients and partners are conducted and ensure case is treated appropriately, particularly among priority populations such as women of reproductive age with rise in congenital syphilis cases and men who have sex with men. STI rates have increased year over year for the last five years in TN, including particularly concerning increases in gonorrhea (74%), syphilis (62%), and congenital syphilis (>300%). These increases in STI illnesses have increased the need for staff to conduct quality STI investigation and partner services in our regional and local health departments. This position is requested to assist the MCR STI staff with such activities to prevent and control infectious disease.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure interviews, partner services, testing and re-testing of patients and partners are conducted
  • Ensure cases are treated appropriately, particularly among priority populations such as women of reproductive age with rise in congenital syphilis cases and men who have sex with men
  • Conduct quality STI investigation and partner services activities
  • Assist the MCR STI staff with preventing and controlling infectious disease

Requirements

  • Necessary special qualifications: A valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required.

Qualifications

  • Education and Experience: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in social work or other related field.
  • Substitution of Experience for Education: Qualifying full-time professional health program field experience as a disease specialist that has completed “ISTDI” or “Passport to Partner Services” DIS training that involves investigation, prevention, or treatment of individuals with communicable diseases may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis to a maximum of four years.
