About the role

A Disease Intervention Specialist (DIS) contributes to AHF by providing case management services to STI and HIV-positive individuals and their sex/needle-sharing partners. The role ensures that all preliminary HIV-positive persons arrange for a confirmatory HIV test and results disclosure.

DIS counsels individuals who suffer from an STI/HIV regarding the nature and control of their disease and educates them on risk reduction techniques and behaviors. The specialist enhances AHF’s reputation by ensuring that all preliminary HIV-positive persons receive appropriate client-centered health and social service referrals, consistent with the standard of care. You will serve as a passionate advocate for AHF’s top initiatives while keeping the organization’s Core Values and Mission top of mind.

AHF operates in a dynamic environment, requiring adaptability to provide the best experience for clients and a collaborative workplace for employees. The DIS will work as part of a close-knit team to locate cases and contacts of sexually transmitted diseases and HIV by interviewing clients, tracing contacts, and convincing them to voluntarily seek diagnosis and treatment.

The specialist also serves as a liaison between the agency and local Public Health Departments to meet all mandated evaluation and reporting requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Provide case management services to STI and HIV-positive individuals and their partners.
  • Ensure preliminary HIV-positive persons arrange for confirmatory testing and results disclosure.
  • Counsel individuals on the nature and control of STI/HIV and educate them on risk reduction techniques.
  • Facilitate client-centered health and social service referrals consistent with the standard of care.
  • Advocate for AHF’s initiatives while upholding the organization’s Core Values and Mission.
  • Locate and trace cases and contacts of STIs and HIV through client interviews.
  • Convince contacts to voluntarily seek diagnosis and treatment.
  • Serve as a liaison between AHF and local Public Health Departments to meet mandated reporting requirements.
