About the role
The Discovery Coordinator is responsible for managing the receipt, preparation, and distribution of discovery materials from various law enforcement agencies to criminal defense attorneys. This position involves liaising with defense counsel, processing special cases, and maintaining accurate records.
Responsibilities
- Processes and prepares initial and supplemental discovery, including scanning documents and assigning evidence to Evidence.com
- Maintains the DA Discovery email inbox and receives discovery requests from defense counsel
- Reviews documents and media, and works with attorneys to determine what is disseminated and what is not
- Creates copies of law enforcement evidence for use by attorneys and the DA Office
- Maintains the Discovery Spreadsheet, ensuring all discovery is sent out within designated periods and updating the reference manual with discovery policies
- Completes afternoon Public Defender list as needed, downloads 911 calls, and communicates with law enforcement and attorneys regarding discovery issues
- Communicates with attorneys and resolves any questions they may have about discovery
- Processes Bates Numbered cases as needed
Requirements
- High School diploma or equivalent with relevant coursework or training in advanced technology techniques
- Four (4) years’ experience in criminal justice agencies or equivalent
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in criminal justice related field or technology preferred
- Bilingual in Spanish (preferred)
Qualifications
- Knowledge of criminal justice procedures and practices
- Ability to work independently and interpret departmental policy
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and familiarity with Evidence.com
