About the role

As a Director, Technical Program Management (TPM) in Enterprise Platforms Technology (EPTech), you will lead the strategy and execution of large-scale, technically complex, cross-functional programs aligned with Capital One’s business priorities. You will break down complexity and organizational silos, influence roadmaps, dive deep into system design and architecture, make technical tradeoffs, drive platform consolidation, and identify, resolve, define, and escalate mitigation plans for hard technical dependencies.

Responsibilities

  • Leverage your technical acumen and engineering experience to drive the strategy and execution of large-scale, technically complex, cross-functional programs aligned with Capital One’s business priorities.
  • Break down complexity and organizational silos, influence roadmaps, dive deep into system design and architecture, make technical tradeoffs, drive platform consolidation, and identify, resolve, define, and escalate mitigation plans for hard technical dependencies.
  • Lead the development and execution of technical strategies and roadmaps for large-scale, complex projects.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment and successful project delivery.
  • Identify and mitigate technical risks throughout the delivery lifecycle.
  • Drive platform consolidation and ensure seamless integration of new technologies and systems.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders across the organization.

Requirements

  • Strong technical backgrounds (ideally building highly scalable platforms, products, or services) with the ability to proactively identify and mitigate technical risks throughout delivery life-cycle.
  • Exceptional communication and collaboration skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving and influencing skills.
  • A quantitative approach to problem-solving and a collaborative implementer to holistic solutions; a systems thinker.
  • Experience as a TPM leader to grow and develop a team of TPMs, while also building the foundations for the TPM practice.
  • Ability to simplify the technically complex and drive well-educated decisions across product, engineering, design, and data science representatives.
  • Deep focus on execution, follow-through, accountability, and results.
  • Exceptional cross-team collaboration; able to work across different functions, organizations, and reporting boundaries to get the job done.
  • Highly tuned emotional intelligence, good listener, and deep-seated empathy for teams and partners.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • At least 7 years of experience managing technical programs.
  • Bachelor's degree in a related technical field (Computer Science, Software Engineering) preferred.
  • 7+ years of experience designing and building data-intensive solutions using distributed computing preferred.
  • 3+ years of experience in building distributed systems & highly available services using cloud computing services / architecture - preferably using AWS preferred.
  • 3+ years experience building highly scalable mobile products & platforms preferred.
  • 3+ years of experience with Agile delivery preferred.
  • 3+ years years experience delivering large and complex programs - where you own the business or technical vision, collaborate with large cross-functional teams, secure commitments on deliverables and unblock teams to land business impact preferred.
  • 3+ years of experience in building systems & solutions within a highly regulated environment preferred.

Pay

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.

  • Mclean, VA: $230,400 - $263,000 for Director, Technical Program Management.
