About the Role

Director of Small Business Development at Central Campus, leading the SBDC team and supporting entrepreneurs in starting or expanding businesses, creating jobs, and raising capital.

Responsibilities

  • Hire, train, and supervise business advisors and administrative staff of the SBDC.
  • Counsel entrepreneurs and clients on business start-up, expansion, job creation, and capital raising.
  • Lead training workshops for entrepreneurs on business-related topics.
  • Market SBDC services to the community (e.g., business leaders, chambers of commerce, economic development organizations, and lenders).
  • Attend SBDC regional meetings and the ASBDC national conference.
  • Manage reporting requirements for the SBA, SBDC Regional Office, and San Jacinto College.
  • Measure, document, and report goal attainment to stakeholders.
  • Prepare and monitor the annual budget.
  • Lead strategic planning, accreditation, and program development for the SBDC.
  • Identify and purchase necessary business/management tools and software.
  • Promote small business interests through networking and presentations to legislators, bankers, and business groups.
  • Inform legislators on SBDC progress supporting small businesses.
  • Serve on economic development committees and task forces within the College’s district.
  • Act as SBDC team leader for Performance Management (IPPs).

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a business-related discipline.
  • Minimum of seven (7) years of job-related experience or business ownership.
  • Physical presence at the assigned on-site work location with limited or no remote work opportunities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • MBA or other business-related graduate degree.
  • Significant entrepreneurial experience (direct business ownership and/or management).
  • Certified Global Business Professional or Certified in Technology Commercialization.

    • Business management, start-up, and expansion.
    • Accounting and finance.
    • Business planning software and spreadsheets.
    • Business formulas and ratio analysis.
    • Bank loan application packaging.
    • Technology for small businesses, including AI.

    • Teaching, coaching, managing, and marketing.
  • Abilities:
    • Interact effectively and authentically with the public.
    • Think critically about small business problems and solutions.
    • Structure business plans and loan packages.
    • Make presentations to large audiences.
    • Build community partnerships.

Pay

Salary is based on the Board-approved salary schedule for the current fiscal year (Salary Grade: 120). See Salary Schedule.
