Director - Operations
About the role
The Director of Operations is responsible for leading and optimizing all manufacturing operations for a $120M+ industrial manufacturing business. This role owns day-to-day operational execution with the goal to strive for excellence in areas related to Safety, Quality, Delivery, Inventory and Cost through the effective use of 80/20 and a servant leadership mindset.
Responsibilities
- Lead all manufacturing operations, including production, materials management, warehousing, environmental health and safety (EH&S), shipping, maintenance, and facilities.
- Ensure consistent execution of daily operations to meet safety, quality, delivery, and cost targets.
- Drive schedule adherence and throughput to support revenue growth and customer demand.
- Establish clear operating rhythms, daily management, and accountability across the facility.
- Champion Lean manufacturing, continuous improvement, and standard work across the value stream.
- Deploy operational excellence tools (e.g., Lean, 80/20, Kaizen, value stream mapping) to improve productivity, working capital, and margins.
- Lead root cause analysis and corrective actions for operational issues impacting performance.
- Ensure processes are documented, repeatable, and scalable to support growth.
- Build, develop, and lead a high-performing Operations leadership team.
- Set clear expectations, goals, and performance standards aligned with company objectives.
- Develop bench strength and succession plans for critical operations roles.
- Foster a culture of safety, accountability, continuous improvement, and employee engagement.
- Own operational performance against budget, including labor efficiency, overhead, scrap, and inventory.
- Partner with Finance and Commercial leaders to support forecasting, capacity planning, and margin improvement.
- Translate strategic priorities into executable operational plans.
- Support capital planning, equipment investments, and make-vs-buy decisions.
- Partner with Engineering, Quality, Supply Chain, and Sales to meet business objectives.
- Ensure compliance with quality systems, safety regulations, and environmental standards.
- Lead operational readiness for new products, volume changes, and customer requirements.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Engineering, Operations Management or other related field required. A Master’s Degree is preferred.
- Minimum 7 years of progressive experience in industrial engineered products manufacturing required.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in a management role with responsibility for manufacturing operations in different operating environments required.
- Supervisory Responsibilities: This role will directly manage a team of 8-10 operations leaders and is indirectly responsible for a team of approximately 115 full-time hourly production employees.
Qualifications
- Proper use of safety equipment such as steel-toed shoes, goggles, safety glasses, gloves, apron and face shield must be observed.
- Noise level may vary from moderate office environment to louder production environment.
- Travel Up to 10% domestic travel may be required.

- Experience with Lean manufacturing, continuous improvement, and standard work.

$120K - $150K depending on experience and qualifications.
