Director of Youth and Young Adult Ministry
About the role
The Director of Youth & Young Adult Ministries at Fountain City United Methodist Church leads a diverse and engaged student community. The role involves overseeing a variety of ministry programming, including Crosswalk (a Celebrate Recovery ministry), traditional youth group nights, Sunday morning discipleship, and informal open gym sessions. The successful candidate will also build a vision for young adult engagement, which is currently in its early stages.
Responsibilities
- Supervise Crosswalk staff and support licensed clinical social workers.
- Develop and sustain volunteer teams for various ministry activities.
- Build genuine relational trust with students through consistent presence.
- Recruit, train, and support volunteers for ministry events.
- Work within Safe Sanctuaries guidelines to ensure the safety and well-being of students.
- Coordinate with the social media coordinator to maintain the church's online presence.
- Engage in regular listening sessions with students to gather feedback and inform ministry decisions.
- Oversee and support additional events, service opportunities, and student-led experiences.
- Collaborate with the full staff of the church to participate in the overall life of the church, including occasional physical tasks during events.
Requirements
This role requires a relational leader who can earn trust through consistent presence and genuine listening. The ideal candidate should be creative, organized, and innovative, able to balance structure and spontaneity. Experience leading student or young adult ministry, recruiting and training volunteers, and working within Safe Sanctuaries guidelines is preferred.
Qualifications
- A bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., education, theology, youth ministry).
- Experience in youth or young adult ministry.
- Ability to build and sustain volunteer teams.
- Knowledge of Safe Sanctuaries guidelines.
- Experience with digital communication and social media.
