Director of Surgical Services
About the role
This regional role, overseeing the teams at Pen Bay & Waldo Hospitals, will partner with the Practice Operations and OR Leadership to lead the administrative and clinical operations of their area to ensure quality of care, patient safety, provider and employee satisfaction, and efficient use of resources.
Responsibilities
- Address the needs of the clinicians and staff in their practice area while aligning individual efforts with the mission, vision, values, strategic goals, and organizational aims of MaineHealth.
- Work closely with the practice managers and directors to ensure the day-to-day operations and performance of their practice area.
- Coordinate provider scheduling, including office-based schedules, call schedules, OR Block schedules, hospital coverage, and after-hours coverage.
- Function as the point person for provider recruitment in their practice area, including screening potential applicants, planning interviews, performing reference checks, and communicating with candidates.
- Participate in onboarding plans for new providers to ensure a smooth transition into the practice.
- Facilitate efforts to ensure quality, safety, productivity, and operational efficiency in their practice area.
- Lead the evaluation process for providers, including Focused Practice Performance Evaluation (FPPE), Ongoing Professional Practice Evaluation (OPPE), and Review of Initial and Reappointment Applications for Credentialing.
- Advocate for the needs of clinicians and staff to administration and communicate organizational needs and expectations to clinicians and staff.
- Address patient grievances and complaints with practice operations and Quality.
- Participate in leadership meetings, training, and development opportunities.
Requirements
- Medical or Allied Health degree.
- Active Maine medical license and board certification in the relevant clinical specialty.
- Minimum of five years in a medical leadership role within a healthcare setting preferred.
- Experience in clinical administration, policy development, or quality improvement.
- Familiarity with healthcare regulations, compliance standards, and financial management.
- Demonstrated ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and manage clinical operations effectively.
