Director of Public Service

About the Role

The University of Virginia School of Law seeks to hire a Director of Public Service within the Mortimer Caplin Public Service Center (PSC). The Director will provide highly individualized counseling to Law School students and graduates on public service searches, conduct employer outreach, create resources and programming, and handle additional projects as assigned by the Assistant Dean for Public Service.

The incumbent will collaborate closely with other members of the Public Service Center, the Office of Private Practice, and the Office of Judicial Clerkships.

Responsibilities

• Provide one-on-one counseling to law students and graduates on public service job searches and professional development.
• Offer guidance on available positions, application processes, and interview preparation.
• Develop and deliver career-related programming for students and graduates.
• Administer the Law School’s public service summer and postgraduate fellowship programs.
• Assist students in identifying and applying for externally funded fellowships, grants, and other programs supporting public service careers.
• Support graduates in career searches and transitions.
• Conduct employer outreach and build relationships with public service organizations.
• Create and maintain resources to aid students and graduates in their public service career pursuits.
