Director of Protective Services
On-site position in Youngstown, OH with travel throughout the market. Oversight of Protective Services for the Youngstown market, including St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital, St. Elizabeth Boardman Hospital, and St. Joseph Warren Hospital. Reports to Director of Protective Services Operations, System Director of Protective Services, or designated leadership member. Direct reports: 5 direct, 50 indirect.
About the Role
The Director of Protective Services plans, directs, and oversees operations and administration of law enforcement, security, and emergency management functions for all facilities within the market. Responsibilities include training, policy development, incident response management, workplace violence prevention, and ensuring regulatory compliance. The role involves collaboration with executives, facility leaders, and external consultants to enhance safety and security across the system.
Responsibilities
- Facilitate procedures to embed the mission into Protective Services across the market, regardless of employed or contracted officers.
- Participate in monthly calls and workflows to standardize policies and approaches across the market.
- Evaluate incident data and recommend mitigation strategies to prevent future occurrences.
- Identify, collect, and evaluate security analytics to drive data-driven decisions.
- Oversee safety and security aspects of incident response planning and assist in investigations of security incidents in collaboration with operational functions and the legal team.
- Work with outside consultants for independent security audits.
- Collaborate with facility leaders to identify and meet their needs, maintaining relationships within the Risk and Insurance shared service function.
- Provide input on annual budgets and strategic plans, serving on the Protective Services Advisory Council (PSAC), Protective Services Enterprise Leadership Market, and Response to Resistance Review Panel.
Requirements
- Valid Driver’s License.
- Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, Business Administration, Law Enforcement, Security, or a closely related field (required). Master’s degree preferred.
- 5 years’ experience in security, law enforcement, or a closely related field (required). 10 years’ senior-level experience preferred.
- Non-violent crisis intervention training (required within 6 months of hire).
- Firearms qualifications; bi-annual firearms qualifications if applicable.
- Completion of Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy (OPOTA) Chief of Police Training Course (required within six months of hire for Ohio residents).
Preferred Certifications
- NRA or Law Enforcement certified concealed carry course.
- Healthcare Safety and Emergency Management Professional certification.
- Certified Protection Professional (CPP).
- Certified Healthcare Safety Professional (CHSP).
- Certified Healthcare Protection Administrator (CHPA).
