About the role
The Creative Director is the keeper of the Elizabeth City State University brand, establishing and maintaining the institution's visual identity. The position defines the creative vision for institutional collateral in alignment with the brand and in collaboration with stakeholders bridging the gap between business strategy and visual storytelling, ensuring all messaging resonates with target audiences.
Responsibilities
- Develops and implements a comprehensive brand identity across multiple platforms, ensuring consistency and alignment with institutional goals.
- Establishes and communicates a compelling creative vision, inspires innovative thinking, and guides the development of high-quality visual and multimedia content.
- Understands design principles, visual communication, and audience engagement strategies to effectively translate complex ideas into impactful creative assets.
- Manages multiple creative projects simultaneously, prioritizes competing demands, oversees production workflows, and delivers projects on time and within scope.
- Buils partnerships, facilitates consensus, and works effectively with campus leaders, faculty, staff, students, external vendors, and other stakeholders.
- Aligns creative initiatives with institutional priorities, marketing objectives, and audience needs, using data and insights to inform creative decision-making and measure effectiveness.

- Strong understanding of design principles, visual communication, and audience engagement strategies to effectively translate complex ideas into impactful creative assets.
- Proven ability to manage multiple creative projects simultaneously, prioritize competing demands, oversee production workflows, and deliver projects on time and within scope.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to build partnerships, facilitate consensus, and work effectively with campus leaders, faculty, staff, students, external vendors, and other stakeholders.
- Knowledge of trademark and licensing practices, brand governance, and compliance standards with the ability to ensure proper use of university marks and visual identity assets.
- Ability to align creative initiatives with institutional priorities, marketing objectives, and audience needs, using data and insights to inform creative decision-making and measure effectiveness.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent and a minimum of four years of experience in marketing, business, communications, or a similarly affiliated field.
