Director of Marketing

Chartwell Financial Advisory · Minneapolis, MN · 3 wk ago
MarketingFull-time

Chartwell is a Minneapolis-based financial advisory firm built on a simple conviction: in the long run, the long run is all that matters. We deliver consulting, corporate finance, transaction opinions, and valuation services to privately held middle-market companies. Our work is relational, built on lifetime client partnerships measured by sustained, long-term success. Our culture rewards intellectual curiosity, original thinking, and collaboration across practice areas. We believe passion is the best economic multiplier and have created an environment where people can learn, grow, and do the best work of their careers.

About the Role

The Marketing Director is a senior individual contributor responsible for developing and executing the firm’s marketing strategy end-to-end. This position is hands-on across strategy, content, campaigns, and execution, focusing on building firm visibility, supporting revenue growth, and positioning Chartwell as a trusted authority to shareholders, boards of directors, and the C-suite.

Responsibilities

  • Marketing Strategy and Positioning
    • Develop and execute an integrated marketing strategy aligned with firm growth priorities and target client segments
    • Define and refine firm messaging across all practice areas and services
    • Ensure consistent brand voice and positioning across all channels
    • Monitor competitors and emerging market and industry trends, assess their potential impact, and proactively translate insights into timely marketing initiatives and positioning
  • Content Development and Thought Leadership
    • Create and manage high-quality content including articles, newsletters, white papers, client alerts, case studies, and presentations
    • Support thought leadership initiatives such as webinars, speaking engagements, and conference participation
    • Collaborate with advisors to translate technical expertise into clear, market-ready content
  • Demand Generation and Campaign Execution
    • Design and execute targeted campaigns to support business development efforts
    • Manage digital marketing efforts including website content, email marketing, and professional social platforms
    • Partner with leadership to support key pursuits and strategic initiatives
    • Track and optimize campaign performance using data and analytics
  • Behavioral Competencies
    • Intellectual Curiosity: Actively seeks to understand complex technical subject matter. Translates expertise across practice areas into market-facing language without oversimplifying. Stays ahead of industry and regulatory trends and moves quickly when signals appear.
    • Independent Judgment: Operates with a high degree of autonomy and owns decisions within their domain. Knows when to move without direction and when to build consensus. Does not require constant oversight to produce quality output.
    • Cross-Functional Integration: Skilled at bringing together disconnected efforts across teams and practice areas into a coherent strategy. Builds trust with technical subject matter experts and earns the credibility needed to coordinate across independent groups.
    • Long-Term Orientation: Prioritizes brand equity and sustainable firm visibility over short-cycle metrics. Makes decisions that hold up over time. Measures success by outcomes, not outputs.
    • Proactive Initiative: Does not wait to be directed. Identifies gaps, proposes solutions, and executes without prompting. Brings a bias toward action while maintaining quality and strategic coherence.
    • Credibility Through Craft: Writes and edits to a high standard. Earns trust with leadership through rigor and precision, not relationship management. Understands that in a firm where expertise is the product, marketing must reflect that same standard.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years experience in a marketing role, with 5 of those being in a marketing leadership role
  • Proven experience leading marketing for professional services, financial services, or advisory firms
  • Strong understanding of complex, technical services and the ability to translate them into clear messaging
  • Hands-on experience across content development, digital marketing, and campaign execution
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and communication skills
  • Comfortable working independently in a small firm environment alongside senior leadership
