Director of Information Technology
Role Responsibilities
Provide strategic leadership and operational oversight for all technology initiatives across a rural critical access health system, including a Critical Access Hospital, seven ambulatory clinics, and approximately 700 employees.
Ensure technology systems administered through a partnership with SSM Health for EPIC EHR effectively support patient-centered care, operational efficiency, regulatory compliance, and organizational strategy.
Develop and execute an IT strategy aligned with organizational objectives and patient care priorities.
Build and maintain strong relationships with SSM Health to ensure optimal EPIC EHR performance and integration.
Influence stakeholders across clinical, business, and administrative functions to adopt technology solutions that enhance care and operations.
Ensure technology initiatives support finance, HR, supply chain, and other business functions alongside clinical care.
Implement technology solutions that improve patient experience, access to care, and communication.
Collaborate with clinical and administrative teams to ensure IT initiatives enhance patient outcomes and staff efficiency.
Maintain HIPAA compliance and safeguard patient data through robust security protocols.
Monitor regulatory changes and ensure adherence to federal and state requirements.
Manage IT infrastructure, networks, and applications to ensure reliability and scalability.
Lead IT budgeting, vendor management, and contract negotiations.
Promote a culture of innovation, transparency, and patient-centered care across all departments.
Serve as a visible leader who champions technology as a tool for improving health outcomes and community well-being.
Participate in community health and technology initiatives and represent the organization in local forums.
Plan and maintain disaster recovery and business continuity capabilities to ensure system resilience and data protection.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field preferred. Relevant experience in Healthcare IT leadership will also be considered. (Master’s degree would be beneficial as well).
Minimum of 7–10 years of progressive IT leadership experience, preferably within healthcare settings.
Demonstrated experience managing EPIC EHR systems in collaboration with external organizations or health system partners.
Strong knowledge of HIPAA, cybersecurity standards, and healthcare compliance requirements.
Exceptional leadership, communication, relationship-building, and strategic planning skills.
Experience in rural healthcare environments and familiarity with critical access hospital operations preferred.
Ability to influence and collaborate effectively across multiple stakeholder groups and partner organizations preferred.
