Director of Fundraising
Job Purpose
To develop a strategic vision for the fundraising function at Human Appeal USA and transform the level of operation to take advantage of new opportunities, in particular achieving an increase in income generation from our community, individual giving, major donors and corporate partnerships fundraising work. To represent the charity externally at a senior level and manage other Fundraising department staff and day to day operations as required.
To develop Human Appeal’s volunteer function and devising new innovative fundraising techniques, as well as more traditional events, in line with strategy. All in order to build awareness of HA projects and donor relationships, to increase income generation/donations year on year to secure the long-term financial sustainability and growth of HA in line with the national FR strategy.
Accoablities
Develop and lead on implementing an annual Fundraising strategy in line with Human Appeal’s Strategic Key Priorities.
Lead the Fundraising Department in the US – effectively performance managing managers of community fundraising, national events, special projects, and strategic partnerships.
Be responsible for the departmental budget - overseeing budgets for community events, partnerships, major donor and corporate fundraising
Maintain budgets and expenditure, monitor and report on income generation in line with projects, report on variance and take responsibility for achieving and exceeding income targets.
All to deliver efficiency, value and FR targets
Keep up to date with Human Appeal’s international programs and work with the Communications and Programs departments to ensure that fundraising materials are kept up to date and consistent with the charity’s campaigns
Ensure the charity is responsive and adapting to a changing environment locally and internationally so that fundraising activities are appropriate and informed correctly
Identify, develop and manage new and innovative national fundraising opportunities and emergency campaigns (events, exhibitions, conferences, partnerships) by adopting a timely and strategic approach (S.W.O.T analysis) to wider global events and local community event trends, maintaining an up-to-date awareness.
Work in collaboration with Department Managers, Heads and Directors across the organization, with a particular focus on packaging our ‘products’ for community, major donors and corporate audiences
Vet influencers to ensure their personal brand, values, and audiences align with our mission
Transition audiences and micro-donors acquired through influencer campaigns into long-term, retained supporters
Act as a professional role model and coach to build the team’s professional capability and confidence
Lead and facilitate team meetings as needed and take responsibility for both team and individual staff development
Prepare management reports for the Board of Directors, CEO and Trustees identifying and validating key performance indicators (KPIs)
Oversee the development of the events program for National tours to ensure it meets the purpose of ensuring that events are appealing and targeted to new, high-level supporters while having broader appeal
Oversee various engaging fundraising events such as dinners, concerts, speaker tours, conferences and challenges to capture and maintain the public eye throughout the year and raise income with a return on investment.
Oversee the major donors fundraising program, including relationship management for current supporters and a pipeline strategy for future support
Develop, nurture and maintain relationships with current/potential donors, charity partners, organizations and businesses nationally, via community networking (face to face and social media) and create a regular presence within respected regions across the US, to establish trust, help secure donations and promote awareness across a wide range of target markets
Work closely with the Volunteers team to manage and nurture a network of national volunteers in line with the volunteer recruitment strategy
Maintain internal procedures/administration such as donor management system, account management system, and cash counting protocols by ensuring secure information input in a timely fashion to help maintain internal control and mitigation of risk
Adhere to HA policies and procedures, e.g. fundraising code of conduct, Equal Opportunities, Company Handbook, etc. at all times to maintain high professional standards and maintaining HA public image
Identify and pursue institutional grants, corporate sponsorships, and matching-gift opportunities
Represent HA at community, donor, and interfaith events as an ambassador of faith-aligned professionalism
Demonstrate on-going professional development through reflective practice and participation in internal and external development opportunities as evidenced in a Continuing Professional Development plan, taking a proactive role in own learning and development activities (e.g. private study, e-learning) to benefit self and charity for the future
Regularly review and adjust fundraising strategies to ensure effectiveness and sustainability
