Director of Food Services

About the role

The primary purpose of this position is to direct the overall operation of the Food Services Department in accordance with current federal, state, and local standards. The incumbent ensures quality nutritional services are provided daily to residents and that the department is maintained in a clean, safe, and sanitary manner.

Responsibilities

• Maintain menus and file them according to established policies and procedures.
• Serve as a liaison with families and residents as needed.
• Maintain a reference library of written material, laws, diet manuals, food codes, etc., to support compliance with standards and quality food service.
• Visit residents periodically to evaluate meal quality, preferences, and feedback.
• Meet regularly with food services personnel and solicit advice from inter‑department supervisors to identify and correct problem areas and improve services.
• Attend department head meetings and other scheduled or ad‑hoc meetings.
• Schedule and announce departmental meeting times, dates, and locations.
• Assist in recruitment, interviewing, and selection of food services personnel.
• Determine departmental staffing requirements to meet service needs.
• Schedule work hours, including vacation and holiday coverage, assign personnel, and manage work assignments.
• Conduct daily rounds to ensure staff perform required duties and follow appropriate food service procedures.
