About the role
The Director, Food Services oversees the Food and Nutrition Services department at SageWest Health Care, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and delivering high-quality, nutritionally appropriate food services.
Responsibilities
- Participates in planning and creating the hospital’s strategic plan to align with the hospital’s mission and vision.
- Manages the department’s budget, submits capital budget requests, and maintains financial records.
- Develops and manages the department’s schedule to ensure adequate staffing and budget adherence.
- Purchases and inspects food, supplies, and equipment from approved vendors.
- Ensures proper inventory management and performs monthly physical inventories.
- Monitors quality control in the kitchen and conducts regular safety/sanitation audits.
- Participates in the hospital’s Performance Improvement program and conducts monthly reports.
- Serves on various committees as required.
- Recruits, selects, trains, and evaluates culinary staff.
- Prepares and retains work schedules to maintain adequate staffing.
- Provides department orientation to new employees and conducts monthly in-services.
- Directs the menu management process and ensures proper food preparation and service.
- Maintains physical plant inspections and ensures emergency preparedness.
- Coordinates with the Registered Dietitian to ensure accurate preparation and delivery of therapeutic diets.
Requirements
- Associate’s Degree or higher in Food Service Management, Culinary Arts, Nutrition, Hospitality Management, or a related field (preferred).
- Food Protection Manager Certification from an ANSI-CFP accredited program (upon hire).
- One of the following credentials required: Registered Dietitian (RD/RDN), Dietetic Technician, Registered (DTR), Certified Dietary Manager (CDM) (upon hire).
- Two years of food service management experience (required).
- Prior experience in healthcare, acute-care, or institutional food service (preferred).
- Prior experience supporting therapeutic diets, regulatory surveys, and food safety programs (preferred).
Qualifications
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to manage budgets, analyze operational data, and lead performance improvement initiatives.
- Proficiency with basic computer applications and food service management systems.
Skills
- Knowledge of healthcare food service operations, sanitation, and food safety standards.
- Understanding of therapeutic diets and clinical nutrition workflows.
- Knowledge of principles of growth and development over the life span.
