Director of Finance

About the Role
The Director of Finance is responsible for the leadership, operation, and management of all budget, accounting, payroll, and Business Office operations. This role provides assistance to the Business Administrator, maintains the general ledger, prepares annual financial statements, financial reports, analysis, and projections. The Director implements year-end processes, ensures consistency in data and reporting, prepares budgets and presentations, and compiles student data for District and State reports. The position oversees fiscal program activities for federal funds and reports to the Business Administrator.
Responsibilities
- Administers and supervises finance and payroll teams to provide services within established timeframes and in compliance with requirements.
- Leads and supervises the business team directors: Assistant Finance Director and Payroll Director.
- Assists in the preparation of federal, state, and local financial reports to ensure compliance with legal, financial, and district requirements.
- Tracks categorical program funds to ensure operations remain within budget and in accordance with fiscal practices.
- Assists in year-end closing, retirement, and Social Security programs to ensure compliance with legal, financial, and District requirements.
- Verifies teacher assignments and coding of expenses to ensure accurate allocations and adherence to fiscal practices.
- Monitors account number approval and assignment on requisitions and purchase orders to ensure compliance with organizational policies.
- Oversees budget information and reports to assist decision-makers in ensuring efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
- Prepares reports (e.g., audit reports, year-end state reports, annual comprehensive financial report, secondary schools quarterly sales tax return) to document audit activities, convey information to the District Audit Committee, and maintain compliance with state reporting requirements.
- Oversees Board, District, and State reports to track expenditures and revenues versus budget, ensuring program operations remain within budget and in accordance with fiscal practices.
- Provides financial accounting and budget support for schools and department programs.
- Handles property taxation, analysis, and recommendations to ensure program operations are within budget and in accordance with fiscal practices.
- Works closely with the Business Administrator and Business team Directors to achieve financial goals and objectives.
- Performs other duties as assigned to ensure efficient operations.
Requirements
- Job-related experience with increasing levels of responsibility is required.
- Bachelor’s degree in a job-related area.
- Master’s Degree in a business-related field is preferred.
- CPA certification is optional.
Pay
Admin Director III salary range: $114,561 - $164,930 (commensurate with experience).
Schedule
242 contract days per year, including 24 vacation days.
