Director of Engineering- Space Team
Janicki Industries is an innovative, family-owned aerospace company located at the foot of the Cascades, focusing on engineering and manufacturing complex projects for the aerospace, defense, and space industries. This position is located on-site in Hamilton, Washington State.
About the role
The Director of Engineering must leverage their experience, knowledge, and expertise to provide leadership and vision to a team of design engineers and technicians. This role ensures Janicki has a flexible and diverse team capable of supporting a wide range of design and engineering projects. The Director develops individuals, teams, and company procedures to support continuous improvement and growth.
Responsibilities
- Provides leadership and vision to the Design and Engineering team to inspire continuous improvement of products, processes, individuals, and teams
- Establishes, monitors, and reports key metrics that support the vision for continuous improvement and growth
- Maintains a focus on employee communication, coaching & mentorship, growth, and morale
- Ensures the establishment and adherence to design processes and workflows that support AS9100 and NADCAP requirements
- Provides management and oversight in capacity planning, resource management, delegation, efficiency, and design schedule execution to support on-time product delivery
- Ensures effective risk management in delegation, design workflow, and offload management
- Ensures the Design and Engineering team engages in effective stakeholder communication
- Develops and maintains relationships with offload resources capable of supporting a wide range of design requirements
- Provides management support to lead designers for underperforming projects and offload resources
- Delegates project assignments to Design Manager, lead design engineers, and other staff
- Promotes effective communication between the design and engineering team and their customers
- Ensures the Design and Engineering team maintains a commitment to excellent customer service both internally and externally
- Ensures proper oversight and review of designs and engineering plans
- Creates senior-level leadership, vision, and long-range strategic direction
- Oversees engineering resource strategies
- Drives strategic stakeholder engagement
- Provides senior-level support and intervention on complex, high-visibility, or underperforming projects ensuring rigorous technical oversight
Requirements
- Due to ITAR and EAR regulations, applicants must be a U.S. Citizen or of Legal Permanent Resident Status as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b (a) (3)
- Ability to obtain a U.S. Secret Security Clearance (U.S. Citizenship Required); Janicki will assist with gaining this access once employed
- Special Access Program or other Government Access Requirements are mandatory and require candidate agreement to enter a Continuous Evaluation program
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related field is required
- 7-10+ years’ experience as a Program Manager, Senior Project Engineer, Senior Design Engineer, or equivalent position in composite and/or metallic part fabrication and assembly
- Able to translate business strategy into an actionable plan and execute efficiently
- Strong communication skills through written, verbal, and graphical mediums in the English language
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, CATIA, and NX CAD software
- Must work well under pressure, meeting and completing multiple deadlines
- Must demonstrate cooperative behavior with colleagues and supervisors
- Being at work on time and maintaining good attendance is essential

Pay
Salary range for this role is between $130,000 - $185,000, plus discretionary bonus, 401(k) matching, and health benefits. Employees can also receive additional pay for off-shifts.
