About the Role

The Dining Services Director (DSD) supervises all aspects of food service for the community, including hiring, training, supervising, and evaluating staff. This role ensures the cleanliness of the kitchen, dining, and storage areas and maintains equipment in good working order.

Responsibilities

  • Directs and assists in the preparation and serving of meals to residents, associates, and guests.
  • Hires, trains, and supervises dining services staff to ensure proper food preparation, storage, and handling in compliance with policies and sanitation standards.
  • Prepares monthly menus suitable for the dietary needs of residents and ensures adherence to these menus.
  • Ensures meals are served on schedule with no more than a fourteen (14) hour span between the end of the evening meal and the beginning of breakfast.
  • Provides an evening snack of nutritional value for residents who desire it.
  • Maintains copies of menus, as served, for at least three (3) months.
  • Ensures the food service area and all equipment meet or exceed sanitation requirements set by federal, state, and local health regulations.
  • Orders all raw food, supplies, and equipment through approved vendors and maintains accurate inventory.
  • Manages food, supplies, and labor hours within budget while maintaining quality standards.
  • Controls food portions and observes amounts consumed.
  • Prepares and posts menus in the kitchen.
  • Develops and maintains a preventative maintenance program for dining services equipment with the assistance of the Maintenance Supervisor.
  • Attends all required staff meetings and in-services.
  • Meets and visits with all new residents within four (4) days of move-in.
  • Becomes familiar with specific dietary requests, needs, and preferences of each resident and trains staff accordingly.
  • Provides excellent customer service when interacting with residents, visitors, and staff.
  • Follows confidentiality policies regarding resident information.
  • Recognizes and addresses the special dietary needs of residents in Harmony Square (HS) and trains staff to do the same.
  • Conducts monthly food committee meetings with resident representatives.
  • Plans, organizes, assists, and supervises dining services for marketing functions.
  • Sets up and conducts in-service educational training for dining services staff.
  • May supervise and conduct training sessions for other staff members as assigned.

Requirements

  • Must possess a Food Service Manager Certificate and/or meet all regulatory requirements for the position.
  • Working knowledge of ordering, storing, preparation, and serving in a food service environment, preferably in senior care.
  • High school graduate.
  • Experience in dining services with management/leadership experience.
  • ServSafe Certified.
  • Strong customer service skills with the ability to communicate effectively with residents, visitors, staff, and management.
  • Willing and able to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays.
  • Good leadership and supervisory skills.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the nutritional needs and challenges of assisted living residents.
  • Able to sit, stand, bend, and walk intermittently during the workday.
  • Able to lift 50 lbs regularly and carry heavy objects up to 20 feet.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to multi-task.
  • Must maintain a neat and clean public appearance.
