Director of Digital Publishing (Volunteer)
About the role
Mentor A Promise is a New York City–based nonprofit serving children and youth (ages 5–18) experiencing housing instability. The Director of Digital Publishing (Volunteer) will oversee the strategy, management, distribution, growth, and optimization of MAP's digital publishing ecosystem.
Responsibilities
- Develop and lead MAP's digital publishing strategy
- Establish long-term goals for audience growth and engagement
- Identify opportunities to expand digital publishing initiatives
- Build scalable publishing systems and workflows
- Align publishing efforts with organizational priorities and audience needs
- Oversee distribution of articles, newsletters, reports, and digital publications
- Expand readership across multiple digital channels
- Develop audience acquisition and retention strategies
- Support long-term audience development initiatives
- Manage publishing calendars, release schedules, and distribution workflows
- Improve publishing efficiency and quality assurance processes
- Maintain publishing consistency across platforms
- Support publication and distribution of organizational newsletters
- Strengthen email audience engagement strategies
- Improve content discoverability and subscriber experiences
- Monitor newsletter performance and growth metrics
- Optimize content delivery channels
- Oversee publishing platforms and content management systems
- Partner with technology and UX teams to improve reader experiences
- Ensure accessibility and usability standards are maintained
- Strengthen content discoverability and search optimization
- Promote inclusive and user-centered publishing practices
- Partner with PromiseBrands on audience development and promotion
- Collaborate with PromiseStudios on multimedia storytelling initiatives
- Support PromisePublic through advocacy and public-awareness publishing efforts
- Work closely with leadership to amplify organizational priorities
- Strengthen integration between publishing, communications, and community engagement efforts
Qualifications
- Experience in digital publishing, journalism, editorial operations, media management, communications, content strategy, newsletters, or related fields
- Strong understanding of publishing platforms and audience development
- Experience managing editorial workflows and publishing operations
- Strong analytical and project management abilities
- Excellent communication and leadership skills
- Passion for journalism, storytelling, publishing, and mission-driven communications
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in digital publishing, journalism, editorial leadership, media operations, newsletter management, communications, audience development, or content strategy
