Director of Development
Position Summary
Reporting directly to the Vice President of Development, the Director of Development will serve as a key fundraising leader responsible for advancing Habitat KC’s philanthropic growth and community engagement efforts. This role will lead the organization's annual giving strategy, corporate partnerships, grant development initiatives, and donor stewardship efforts in support of Habitat KC's mission: building homes, communities, and hope.
Responsibilities
Leverage fundraising metrics, donor insights, pipeline reports, and CRM data to evaluate performance, identify opportunities, and inform decision-making.
Manage a portfolio of individual, corporate, and foundation donors through prospect identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.
Oversee the organization's year-end campaign in partnership with Marketing, ensuring cohesive messaging, strong donor engagement, and performance against revenue goals.
Develop and strengthen relationships with corporate partners, sponsors, and community stakeholders to drive philanthropic investment, volunteer engagement, and long-term partnerships.
Partner with internal and external stakeholders to maximize participation, visibility, and fundraising results in affinity build initiatives, including Women Build, Pride Build, Veterans Build, and future engagement opportunities.
Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team through coaching, accountability, professional development, and performance management.
Support team members in achieving individual and organizational goals.
Participate in outside meetings, donor visits, presentations, and community events as required.
Occasionally participate in volunteer experiences, affinity builds, and construction site activities to support donor and corporate partner engagement.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Business, Communications, Nonprofit Management, Marketing, Public Relations, or related field preferred. A combination of experience and education will be considered.
Previous experience working in or with nonprofit, philanthropic, volunteer-driven, or community-focused organizations preferred.
Proven success cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding donors, clients, sponsors, or strategic partners, resulting in measurable growth and long-term engagement.
Experience developing and executing strategic fundraising, partnership, or revenue-generation initiatives that drive sustainable organizational growth.
Strong project management and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities, campaigns, and stakeholder relationships in a dynamic environment.
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including experience developing compelling proposals, presentations, donor communications, and impact-focused storytelling.
Demonstrated ability to build, lead, and develop a high-performing team while fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
Experience utilizing CRM, donor management, or fundraising systems to manage relationships, track performance, and inform strategic decision-making preferred.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and familiarity with data-driven reporting and fundraising analytics tools.
