Director of Content Creation
Scope Summary
We're looking for a creative operator: someone who thinks like a content strategist but works like a producer. You'll own CompTIA's content creation function across video, brand creative, and multi-format production, serving the marketing teams plus cross-functional partners. You'll have two professional studios at HQ, an annual contractor/agency budget, and the mandate to build a content engine that creates once and publishes everywhere. This starts as a hands-on production role. You'll pick up a camera on Tuesday, cut three assets by Thursday, and have a content plan that turns one shoot into ten deliverables. Over time, you'll build this into a team and a function that powers content creation across the entire organization.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Build and Run a Content Creation Engine
Own end-to-end content production across video, creative assets, and multi-format deliverables for B2B and B2C audiences
Operate CompTIA's two on-site studios as a high-output content factory for interviews, demos, thought leadership, and product content
Develop a repeatable content creation process that scales: intake, production, atomization, distribution
Identify gaps in the content calendar and fill them through repurposed content, quick-turn production, and AI-assisted creation
Produce Video Content
- Hands-On Plan, shoot, light, and edit video content yourself across brand storytelling, product launches, short-form social, and campaign support
- Create YouTube and long-form content for brand awareness alongside fast-turn short-form for Reels, TikTok, and Shorts
- Create recuts and repurposed assets from existing video library through content atomization and multi-format repurposing
- Champion UGC and creator-generated content as a core part of the content mix, understanding when lo-fi outperforms high production value
Drive Brand Creative Direction
- Establish and maintain visual and tonal consistency across all content and creative assets
- Partner with Product Marketing to translate positioning frameworks into compelling creative executions across formats
- Provide creative direction to the broader marketing team on how content should look, sound, and feel
Manage Budget and Contractor Ecosystem
- Allocate and manage an annual budget for freelance editors, animators, writers, specialized production talent, and equipment
- Develop a contractor ecosystem
- Leverage AI and Emerging Tools
- Integrate AI tools into production workflows for script drafting, rough cuts, auto-captioning, thumbnail generation, and b-roll augmentation
- Continuously evaluate new creative technology that increases content output without increasing cost
- Use AI to accelerate content atomization: turning one piece of source material into multiple format-native assets
- Content Production Volume
- Content Atomization Ratio
- Production Turnaround Time
- Content Engagement Rate
- Paid Creative Performance
- 7+ years in video production, content creation, or in-house creative roles with progressive responsibility
- Managed a team/person in a creative leadership capacity
- Hands-on production skills: you can shoot, light, edit, and deliver broadcast-quality video content yourself
- Demonstrated experience thinking about content holistically across formats (video, written, social, sales enablement), not just one medium
- Experience developing content across multiple social channels, including YouTube and IG
- Portfolio showing range across formats and lengths (hero brand pieces AND fast-turn social content)
- Evidence of content atomization in practice: one shoot or source asset yielding 5+ distinct deliverables across channels
- Comfort with UGC, creator content, and lo-fi formats as strategic tools, not compromises
- Active use of AI tools in creative workflows (not theoretical openness, actual practice)
- Experience managing freelancer/contractor relationships and production budgets
- Ambition to build: you want to create a function and eventually lead a team, not just produce individual assets
- Located in the Chicago metro area or willing to relocate (Lombard, IL; on-site required)
- Preferred degree in related field
- 7+ years of direct experience in related field
