This is a senior leadership position for an accomplished residential construction professional who understands how to lead both projects and people.

About the role

Based in Menlo Park, Supple Homes is a boutique custom homebuilder with more than 20 years of experience delivering sophisticated residences throughout Silicon Valley. Our projects typically range from $4 million to $11 million, working alongside leading architects, consultants, subcontractors, and discerning homeowners. Our team is guided by three core values: Hunger to Evolve, Enjoy the Process, and No Hidden Agenda.

Responsibilities

  • Directly manage, mentor, and develop Supple Homes' Project Managers

  • Support hiring, onboarding, training, performance management, and development of construction personnel
  • Build a high-performing construction team capable of taking ownership and operating consistently
  • Maintain executive-level oversight of project schedules, budgets, scopes, quality, and client commitments
  • Review project financial performance, forecasting, cost-to-complete, change orders, and profitability
  • Ensure projects remain properly staffed, planned, documented, and resourced
  • Identify schedule risks, cost exposure, procurement issues, and operational bottlenecks across the project portfolio
  • Participate in critical project meetings and client conversations when senior leadership involvement is required
  • Ensure Project Managers maintain accurate and timely information in BuilderTrend and other company systems
  • Drive projects toward successful completion while protecting quality, margin, and client relationships
  • Develop and continuously improve company construction processes, standards, templates, and operating procedures
  • Create greater consistency in how projects move from preconstruction through construction and closeout
  • Improve scheduling, procurement, cost control, documentation, reporting, and subcontractor-management systems
  • Establish measurable construction KPIs and use them to evaluate team and project performance
  • Improve coordination between construction, estimating, accounting, administration, and company leadership
  • Help determine project assignments, workloads, staffing requirements, and resource priorities
  • Identify recurring operational problems and implement practical long-term solutions
  • Maintain Supple Homes' standards for craftsmanship and execution across all active projects
  • Ensure teams are proactive rather than reactive when dealing with quality, schedule, and budget concerns
  • Reinforce jobsite safety expectations and compliance with company procedures
  • Maintain high standards for documentation, communication, forecasting, and administrative accuracy
  • Develop strong relationships with key subcontractors, architects, consultants, vendors, and trade partners
  • Hold Project Managers accountable for both project results and the client experience
  • Work closely with ownership and senior leadership on company priorities, staffing, forecasting, and growth
  • Provide clear visibility into the health of every active construction project
  • Participate in annual and quarterly planning for the construction department
  • Help establish project capacity and determine when the company is prepared to take on additional work
  • Recommend investments in people, technology, systems, and processes that improve construction performance
  • Help build the operational infrastructure required for Supple Homes' continued growth

Requirements

  • Multiple years of experience directly managing Project Managers, Senior Project Managers, or construction teams
  • Proven success overseeing multiple complex construction projects simultaneously
  • Strong knowledge of the Bay Area luxury residential construction market
  • Thorough understanding of California building codes, permitting, inspections, and construction practices

  • Highly organized, accountable, proactive, and comfortable operating with significant responsibility
  • Valid California driver's license and reliable transportation
  • Must be based in the Bay Area and available to visit Menlo Park-area projects regularly

A degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, Business, or a related discipline is beneficial but significant relevant experience is more important.

Benefits

  • $190,000-$230,000 annual base salary, depending on experience and qualifications
  • Performance-based bonus opportunity
  • Realistic total compensation potential of approximately $210,000-$250,000+
