Director of Community Development

About the role

The Community Development Director oversees the Community Development Department, which includes planning, zoning, and Code Compliance. The incumbent is responsible for developing and implementing strategies that enhance the City's neighborhoods, environment, and economy.

Responsibilities

  • Directs the planning, zoning, and Code Compliance functions of the Community Development Department.
  • Enforces federal, state, and local laws and ordinances related to the comprehensive plan, land development code, and municipal code.
  • Maintains neighborhood sustainability through coordinated public, private, and economic/redevelopment activities and partnerships.
  • Facilitates quality development and redevelopment projects aligned with the City's strategic planning initiatives.
  • Manages and coordinates the implementation of the City's comprehensive plan and land development code.
  • Ensures compliance with environmental regulations and promotes sustainable practices.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Urban Planning, Public Administration, or a related field.
  • AICP certification preferred.
  • At least 8-10 years of progressively responsible experience in community development, planning, or a related field.
  • Experience in managing and enforcing zoning and land development codes.
  • Strong leadership and management skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders and community members.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws and ordinances relevant to land development and urban planning.
  • Understanding of sustainable development principles and practices.
  • Experience in project management and coordination.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant software.

Pay

$137,393.82 - $197,216.01 per year based on experience and qualifications.
