About The Role
The Director of Communications and Marketing is a key member of the executive leadership team, contributing to organizational strategy, budget, and policy direction. This role spearheads communications and promotional strategies to advance CCOHS’s mandate, raising awareness of our products, services, and programs while driving reach, brand reputation, and growth.
- Oversee strategies and initiatives to achieve performance goals aligned with our Strategic Plan, focusing on responsiveness to Canadians’ needs, quality standards, outreach, impact, and financial sustainability.
- Establish and maintain CCOHS’s institutional voice and presence, ensuring tone and perspective reflect the Centre’s tripartite nature while protecting and enhancing its reputation and brand integrity.
- Serve as the designated federal government Head of Communications (HOC), ensuring compliance with federal policies and reporting requirements, including communications, identity programs, advertising directives, and publishing standards.
- Deliver products, events, commitments, copyrights, accessibility standards, and internal/external communications, fostering cross-departmental collaboration.
- Act as a strategic advisor to the President and CEO and leadership team on messaging, branding, and promotional strategies.
- Model and champion the CCOHS Code of Conduct and the Values and Ethics Code for the Public Sector.
- Manage two direct reports and 13 indirect staff across Communications and Outreach teams, setting goals, performance targets, and allocating resources within budgetary constraints.
- Oversee human resources activities, including hiring, performance management, employee development, labour relations, and end-of-employment decisions.
- Manage stakeholder and partner relationships, seeking opportunities to enhance business effectiveness, expand reach, generate revenue, and contain costs.
- Serve as the main liaison with the Minister of Labour’s communications team.
Requirements
- Bilingualism in English and French is preferred.
- A degree in Communications, Marketing, or a related discipline (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
- A minimum of 8–10 years of experience as an innovative leader in communications and marketing, ideally in a medium-sized unionized environment.
- Strong knowledge of current and emerging social media, community engagement platforms, web interfaces, analytics, and technologies.
- Proficiency with communications technologies, industry systems, and software solutions.
- Solid understanding of federal legislation governing communications, marketing, and accessibility.
- Experience in digital media and marketing, including brand strategy, creative direction, and project management.
- Superior writing, editing, and project management skills, with the ability to deliver flawless communications aligned with CCOHS’s reputation.
- Knowledge of copywriting, graphic design, layout, and publishing principles.
- Experience in fiscal management, including revenue and expense budgets.
- Understanding of sales cycles and pipelines.
- Experience with high-level external stakeholder engagement.
- Senior-level experience in the public sector is an asset.

Pay
Salary range: $128,941 to $166,010 (CCOHS-15) per annum.
