Director of Commercial Development
Position Summary
The Director of Commercial Development will be primarily responsible for the acquisition and development of new customers in the global parenteral packaging market. This role focuses on identifying high-potential pharmaceutical and biotech clients, securing new business partnerships, and expanding the company’s footprint, mainly across established markets.
Key Responsibilities
Team Leadership: Lead, mentor, and manage a high-performing commercial development team located in North America and Europe. Set clear goals, provide strategic guidance, and support talent development.
New Customer Acquisition: Identify, target, and engage new pharmaceutical and biotech customers globally, with a focus on injectable drug developers, CDMOs, and emerging biotech firms.
Opportunity Development: Build and manage a robust pipeline of high-value commercial opportunities from initial outreach through deal closure.
Account Onboarding: Lead the early-stage development of new customer relationships, ensuring a smooth transition into long-term account management.
Market Mapping: Conduct market segmentation and profiling to identify untapped customer segments and unmet needs in key geographies.
Proposal & Contracting: Develop tailored proposals, negotiate commercial terms, and close contracts in collaboration with legal and supply chain teams.
Cross-functional Collaboration: Work closely with marketing, R&D, regulatory, and operations to align customer requirements with product capabilities and supply readiness.
Customer Insights: Gather and relay market intelligence and customer feedback to support product development and strategic decision-making.
Performance Metrics: Track and report on KPIs related to new business wins, pipeline development, and market penetration.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Life Sciences, Engineering, or related field
10+ years in commercial development, sales, or business development within pharmaceutical packaging, drug delivery, or CDMO environments.
Demonstrated success in building and leading international commercial teams.
Strong knowledge of parenteral packaging technologies and pharma regulatory requirements.
Excellent leadership, communication, and negotiation skills.
Fluent in English (additional European language(s) is a plus).
Willingness to travel internationally (30–50%).
