About the role
Directs all aspects of Circulation Services for the Spartanburg County Public Libraries system.
Responsibilities
- Develops objectives and key results for Circulation Services and clearly communicates SCPL’s philosophy of Circulation Services to staff and patrons
- Manages Circulation Department staff, including hiring, scheduling, and training
- Maintains the Circulation Manual and trains staff system-wide on circulation policies and procedures
- Communicates with vendors for library card orders, various monthly services, and circulation-related equipment and software
- Finds solutions to circulation problems and assists staff system-wide with troubleshooting circulation issues
- Investigates and implements new procedures as needed
- Maintains departmental statistics and monthly reports
- Substitutes in the Circulation department and at branches as needed
- Stays informed of patron needs relating to library card services through library patron interactions, reading current journals, and attending training opportunities to ensure consistent quality service for all patrons
- Represents SCPL at conferences and events related to Circulation and Library Card Services
Requirements
- Master’s Degree in Library Science from an accredited ALA library school
- Three years of public library experience
- Supervisory experience
- Thorough knowledge of professional library principles, procedures, materials, and practices
- Experience with Integrated Library Systems (ILS), particularly Polaris
- Driver’s license valid in the State of South Carolina with the ability to drive to other libraries or community outreach

- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills that display a positive attitude and cultural sensitivity with the ability to engage with people from all backgrounds and age groups
Pay
$61,754 per year
Schedule
40 hours per week, Monday–Friday, 8:00 am–5:00 pm. Must be flexible to accommodate schedule changes and may be asked to work other times as needed.
