Director of Business Development & Acquisitions - Analytics and Operations
About the role
The Director of Business Development & Acquisitions - Analytics and Operations will drive the development and execution of AbbVie's BD strategy. This role combines running the BD&A engine with building AI-enabled analytics that enhance dealmaking efficiency.
Responsibilities
- Lead the design and deployment of AI-enabled analytics capabilities to improve team efficiency, standardize deal processes, and ensure rigorous deal analyses including peer analysis, deal comparables, contract analyses, automated screening models, and competitive/market intelligence.
- Apply AI, machine learning, and advanced analytics to synthesize market, scientific, financial, competitive, and pipeline data into actionable insights for leadership.
- Prioritize targets, opportunities, and capabilities of interest, and lead multiple cross-functional External Innovation strategic initiatives.
- Support the BD Strategy process and communicate the BD strategy to leadership.
- Provide dedicated support during large deals by acting as a bridge and integrator across functions such as R&D, Commercial, Finance, BD, and S&E.
- Support BD&A/S&E leads for transactions, providing background market, financial, or scientific information.
- Deepen and broaden institutional knowledge of therapeutic priorities (mechanisms, companies, etc.)
Requirements
- Bachelor's or equivalent degree required. Advanced degree (PharmD, PhD, MD, MBA) highly preferred.
- Minimum 10+ years of experience with a Bachelor's, 8+ years with a Master's, and 6+ years with a PhD, with experience driving large cross-functional initiatives/projects.
- Strong understanding of the drug development, regulatory, and commercialization process for evaluating pharmaceutical opportunities.
- Demonstrated ability to leverage AI, machine learning, automation, or advanced analytics to support strategic decision-making, business development, competitive intelligence, or portfolio strategy.
- Demonstrated ability to drive large cross-functional teams in a matrixed environment.
- Strong communication skills to communicate strategies and recommendations to executive-level audiences.
- Strong financial acumen and analytical skills to understand financial evaluations and drive fact-based decision-making.
- Demonstrated ability to lead a team directly strongly preferred.

$182,000 - $346,000 USD

This role is primarily site- or office-based but can occasionally be performed remotely. Employees who are site/office-based and can occasionally perform their role virtually work both in the office and remotely, following the policies and regulations in place at their location.
