Director of Accounting

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Director of Accounting to lead key accounting operations, financial reporting, and technical accounting initiatives within a regulated financial services environment.

Responsibilities

• Lead monthly and quarterly close activities, consolidations, and financial reporting.
• Perform technical accounting research and prepare accounting memorandums for complex transactions.
• Review financial analyses, key accounting estimates, and performance trends.
• Oversee internal controls, account reconciliations, and SOX compliance efforts.
• Support internal and external audits, regulatory reporting, and financial statement preparation.
• Supervise and mentor accounting staff while partnering with cross-functional finance teams.
• Drive continuous process improvements and enhancements to accounting systems and workflows.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA required.
• 7–10 years of progressive accounting experience, with Required experience within the insurance or reinsurance industry.
• Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, statutory accounting principles (STAT), SEC reporting, and technical accounting research.
• Experience with financial reporting, regulatory reporting, audits, and internal controls.
• ERP experience (Oracle or similar preferred).
• Proven leadership, analytical, and communication skills.
