About the role
South Slope Communications is seeking a strategic, hands-on Director of Accounting to lead our accounting and billing functions during an exciting period of growth and investment. Responsibilities
- Lead the preparation of accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
- Oversee and continuously improve the month-end and year-end close processes
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and applicable industry standards
- Ensure compliance with Federal Communications Commission (FCC), Rural Utilities Service (RUS), and other federal/state regulatory requirements
- Support the preparation of regulatory filings, cost studies, and reporting requirements unique to telecommunications
- Maintain compliance with loan covenants and reporting requirements
- Lead the annual financial audit and serve as primary liaison with external auditors
- Develop, implement, and maintain strong internal control systems
- Identify and mitigate financial and operational risks
- Oversee general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and fixed asset accounting
- Oversee billing process and collaborate with sales and operations on pricing
- Avoid inaccuracies in accounting for capital-intensive projects, including fiber network expansion and infrastructure investments
- Manage plant accounting, depreciation, and work order systems typical of telecom operations
- Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing accounting team
- Foster a collaborative, service-oriented culture aligned with company values
- Partner across departments to support operational and strategic initiatives
- Partner with the CFO on budgeting, forecasting, and long-range financial planning
- Provide insights and analysis to support capital allocation, rate strategies, and growth initiatives
- Contribute to financial reporting and presentations for executive leadership and the Board of Directors
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA preferred)
- 7-10+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 3–5 years in a leadership role preferred
- Experience in telecommunications environment preferred
