About the role

The Director of Accounting will oversee the accounting and payroll departments, supporting the Vice President (VP), Finance, with in-depth knowledge of financial management principles and exhibiting expert knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and oversee all accounting functions including monthly financial reporting, cash and investment accounts, accounts payable, and payroll.
  • Demonstrate expert skills in implementing and maintaining GAAP-based accounting and robust internal control systems to ensure the integrity, accuracy, and compliance of all financial operations.
  • Maintain current knowledge of GAAP, HRSA, and other Federal legal and regulatory requirements, and ensure systems are configured correctly to ensure compliance.
  • Develop and maintain accounting policies and procedures in accordance with regulatory and internal control requirements. Accountable for oversight and implementation.
  • Oversee the organization’s system of accounts and ensure that accounting records are prepared and maintained for all organizational transactions and assets, including grant accounting and tracking.
  • Implement, monitor, and continuously strengthen GAAP accounting practices and internal controls to safeguard organizational assets, support regulatory and audit requirements, and ensure proper accounting procedures in accordance with GAAP.
  • Work collaboratively with the Director of Financial Planning and the VP of Finance in the financial and strategic planning of the organization.
  • Ensure successful and timely completion of the annual audit by preparing accurate audit schedules and supporting documentation for external auditors, including materials related to 401(k) and 403(b) audits and filings.
  • Adapt to and manage change effectively in a rapidly evolving environment, ensuring the team remains agile and responsive to organizational needs.
  • Champion a culture of continuous improvement by proactively identifying opportunities to enhance processes, increase efficiency, and implement best practices across all accounting operations.
  • Ensure successful completion and compliance with all governmental grant and tax filings.
  • Prepare operating data and special reports as required, including interim financial statements.
  • Lead and conduct accounting operations using HealthPoint’s LEAN Management System methodologies to drive continuous improvement and leverage technology to streamline workflows, enhance accuracy, and support the organization's strategic goals through a structured process to identify and eliminate waste, determine process improvements, and implement and measure impact of changes.
  • Coaches staff to use tools in their standard work.
  • Maintain good attendance, is punctual, and works full scheduled shift as a condition of employment.

  • Ensure high quality, accuracy and timely delivery of all work in support and enhancement of the objectives and goals of the organization.
  • Continuously evaluate and improve processes and procedures to streamline and enhance office operations using the HealthPoint Lean Management System (HLMS) tools and processes.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree (BA/BS) in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration from a four-year college or university;
  • Five (5) to eight (8) years related progressive experience and at least 5 years’ experience managing an accounting department;
  • At least five (5) years of staff management experience;
  • or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Federally Qualified Healthcare Center experience a plus. Healthcare experience preferred and CPA preferred.

Ability to read, analyze and interpret common industry related journals, financial reports and legal documents.

Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.

Ability to write reports and business correspondence and effectively present information to top management, clients, external groups and/or boards of directors.

Advanced ability to operate computers and related software for Microsoft programs including Word, Excel, Outlook, and accounting software. Experience with MIP software desired.

Maintain current CPA license as appropriate.
