Description Of The Position

The organization is seeking a hands-on Director of Accounting for a contract engagement. This individual will lead accounting and financial operations while serving as a key financial partner to executive leadership and the Board. The strongest candidates will bring a combination of accounting leadership, cost accounting, construction finance, project costing, bank covenant compliance, lending requirements, and property management experience.

Responsibilities

  • Lead accounting and financial operations in accordance with GAAP.
  • Prepare accurate and timely financial statements, management reports, and Board-level reporting.
  • Oversee budgeting, forecasting, audits, internal controls, bank reconciliations, and general accounting activities.
  • Manage financial compliance related to funding agreements, loans, bank covenants, affordability requirements, and statutory obligations.
  • Oversee financial documentation related to properties, funding contracts, loan renewals, and compliance requirements.
  • Provide financial oversight for construction projects, including project costing, budgets, financial commitments, and budget-to-actual performance.
  • Support financial compliance across affordable housing and property management operations.
  • Identify financial risks and recommend improvements to controls, policies, processes, and systems.
  • Lead and support a small accounting team.
  • Partner with executive leadership, the Board, funders, lenders, donors, and other stakeholders.
  • Support strategic planning and organizational initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred.
  • CPA preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting experience; approximately 7 years preferred.
  • At least 2 years of senior management experience.
  • Experience in affordable housing, construction, property management, real estate, nonprofit finance, or a related industry strongly preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of cost accounting, project costing, construction finance, financial reporting, budgeting, audits, and internal controls.
  • Experience with bank and loan covenant compliance and funding or regulatory requirements.
  • Experience working with Board-level stakeholders and external financial partners.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, leadership, and communication skills.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Yardi experience preferred.
  • Bilingual capabilities are a plus.
  • Ability to meet applicable background and financial screening requirements.

Pay

$60.00–$75.00/hour
