Director, Medical Science Liaison, Oncology

TSP is engaged in a direct hire search for a Lung Medical Science Liaison role with one of our clients. This position is a key part of the Medical Affairs team, serving as a liaison between the client and healthcare professionals to advance scientific and medical knowledge in lung cancer and related therapeutic areas.

About the role

The Lung Medical Science Liaison (MSL) will engage in peer-to-peer scientific dialogue with healthcare professionals, translate insights into actionable strategies, and serve as a therapeutic expert and thought partner to internal teams. The role involves supporting clinical study sites, medical education, advisory boards, and medical congresses. The MSL will operate within an assigned geographic territory, collaborating with stakeholders across Medical Affairs, Clinical Development, Commercial, and Compliance teams. The ideal candidate is an effective communicator, detail-oriented, proactive, and a skilled collaborator, located within an hour’s drive of a major airport.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain strong relationships with key opinion leaders (KOLs), healthcare professionals, and academic institutions to advance scientific and medical knowledge.
• Communicate clinical and scientific data to KOLs and healthcare professionals through presentations, educational programs, and scientific discussions.
• Synthesize and communicate scientific insights from KOLs to relevant internal teams.
• Provide scientific support for medical congresses, advisory boards, and other scientific engagements to enhance organizational visibility.
• Establish credibility as a scientific expert and resource for internal stakeholders, supporting products and therapeutic areas.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with Medical Affairs, Clinical Development, Marketing, and other teams to execute medical strategies.
• Stay current with scientific literature, emerging research, and the competitive landscape.
• Adhere to company Core Values and policies, including regulatory requirements for customer engagement.

Requirements

• Doctoral degree in a scientific or medical discipline.
• 8+ years of experience as an MSL or in a similar role within the pharmaceutical or biotech industry.
• 3+ years of experience as an MSL specifically in the lung cancer disease state area.
• Strong understanding of clinical research methodologies and drug development processes.
• Knowledge and experience within the oncology therapeutic area.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to analyze and synthesize scientific information.
• Proven presentation skills for communicating complex scientific data to diverse audiences.
• Strong networking skills to build and maintain relationships with KOLs and healthcare professionals.
• Self-directed, able to thrive in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
• Willingness to travel up to 60% of the time.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in both lung and gastrointestinal cancers.
• Experience with early and late-stage clinical assets as well as approved therapies.

Pay

The annual base salary for this position ranges from $236,000 to $259,000 USD. This role may also include eligibility for commissions or bonuses based on company and individual performance, along with robust equity awards, strong benefits, and learning and development opportunities.
