About the role
The Director of US Market Access Strategy develops and deploys brand and therapeutic-area marketing campaigns and tactics for AstraZeneca’s U.S. Respiratory Biologics portfolio (FASENRA and launch candidate Tozorakimab). This role partners with the access strategy lead to create a tactical plan that supports overall access objectives, refines customer-facing marketing materials, and collaborates with cross-functional teams—brand marketing, HEOR, clinical, and account teams—across payers, providers, channel/trade partners, and specialty pharmacies. The position focuses on in-market and launch product campaigns for multiple customer types, manages budget and agency partners, conducts market research, gathers customer feedback, and designs targeted omni-channel marketing materials to optimize access.
Based at AstraZeneca’s Wilmington headquarters, this role reports to the Sr. Director, Market Access Strategy – Respiratory Biologics.
Responsibilities
- Demonstrate expert knowledge of the clinical disease state to inform value strategy and access planning.
- Lead development and management of the US managed-care marketing plan for assigned products in collaboration with access strategy leads.
- Manage payer marketing budget, agency, and external vendors.
- Develop marketing programs, payer value narratives, health-system value narratives, ACD team assets, field tools, and resources.
- Engage medical, legal, and regulatory review to drive approval, training, and roll-out of materials to customer-facing teams.
- Create omni-channel marketing campaigns to supplement traditional access marketing.
- Partner with Insights, Analytics & Forecasting (IA&F) and matrix teams to conduct market research and message testing, ensuring effectiveness of materials and informing brand decisions.
- Build data-driven customer value narratives based on account-specific engagements.
- Collaborate with Access Strategy Lead, HEOR, brand, clinical, and account teams to shape value messages and develop pre-approval information exchange (PIE) materials.
- Engage field teams (Account Directors, FRMs, and Sales) to collect feedback on account insights, reimbursement challenges, and office dynamics, aligning marketing materials with customer needs.
- Collaborate with contract strategy to advance patient access and communicate brand access objectives while conserving gross-to-net (GTN).
- Ensure alignment of brand execution activities with brand needs.
- Keep brand access strategy and commercial leadership updated on shifting account and field challenges related to strategic priorities.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree.
- 5+ years of experience in pharmaceutical, healthcare, scientific, clinical, institutional, or related industry, including 3+ years of commercial experience.
- Understanding of the US market access landscape and the legal/regulatory environment for pharmaceuticals.
Skills
- Advanced Degree in Business, Marketing, or Science (desirable).
- Demonstrated experience developing U.S. marketing materials.
- Ability to assess quantitative and qualitative analyses of complex strategic initiatives and inform brand decisions.
- Understanding of business models, influence/impact, and decision drivers of U.S. commercial and government payers, as well as channel customers (e.g., specialty pharmacy, distribution, home infusion).
- Working knowledge of reimbursement methodologies used by commercial and government payers under medical and pharmacy benefits.
- Ability to work cross-functionally in a matrix environment and communicate complex challenges and data-driven recommendations to senior leaders.
- Experience reviewing marketing materials with medical, legal, and regulatory review committees in process-driven promotional environments.
- Up to 10% U.S. domestic travel as required.
- Respiratory Biologics or other Biologics experience.
- Launch management and marketing experience.
- Strong financial acumen with the ability to assess and drive results.
- Strong communication, presentation, collaboration, and negotiation skills.
- Ability to lead through change, complexity, and ambiguity in a highly matrixed environment.
- Demonstrated learning agility.
Pay
The annual base pay for this position ranges from $193,898.40 to $290,847.60 USD. Hourly and salaried non-exempt employees will also receive overtime pay for qualifying hours. Base pay may vary based on market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The role offers a short-term incentive bonus opportunity, eligibility for an equity-based long-term incentive program (salaried roles), retirement contributions (hourly roles), and commission eligibility (sales roles).
