About the role
The Director II, Family Office Solutions at Northern Trust leads and cultivates complex Ultra High Net Worth (UHNW) client relationships. They serve as a trusted, strategic advisor and coordinator across all aspects of wealth management for UHNW clients. This role drives organic growth through client retention and expansion and sources new relationships. The ideal candidate will have in-depth knowledge of wealth planning, expertise in the UHNW wealth management industry, and strong interpersonal, verbal, written, and presentation skills.
Responsibilities
- Serves as a trusted advisor and coordinator across all aspects of wealth management for UHNW clients.
- Drives organic growth through client retention and expansion and sources new relationships.
- Interfaces primarily with C-Suite executives, providing create financial solutions to meet their complex needs.
- Cultivates and manages deep, long-term relationships with Ultra-High Net Worth (UHNW) clients, serving as their central point of contact and helping them navigate their complex financial needs.
- Develops referrals and leads from internal and external sources including centers of influence working with UHNW clients.
- Understands each client's unique family dynamics, financial goals, and philanthropic aspirations.
- Works with a team of experts to develop and implement customized wealth management strategies for UHNW clients.
- Orchestrates specialists to provide holistic financial services including wealth structuring, credit facilities, banking, asset management, budgeting, insurance, charitable giving, wealth transfer, and tax services.
- Develops tailored meeting agendas and presentations with proactive, targeted advice and a relationship timeline to fulfill client goals in the short, medium, and long term.
- Reviews accounts to determine the banking, investment, and advisory needs of clients; anticipates and creates opportunities for enhancing the client relationships.
- Contributes to organic growth by expanding current relationships and sourcing new ones.
- Actively participates in the development of new and integrated solutions to meet UHNW client needs.
- Bridges gaps between clients and the Northern Trust team, ensuring smooth delivery of new services and communicating emerging needs.
- Incorporates digital solutions and capabilities to enhance the client experience.
Requirements
- Experience 15+ years in the industry, including significant experience in relationship management, portfolio management, and/or sales specifically with UHNW clients.
- A degree or equivalent in a relevant field (Business Administration, Finance, Economics).
- An MBA or post-graduate degree preferred.
- CFP, CPA, CFA, CTFA, CFM certificate preferred.
- FINRA Series 7, 66 and Insurance licenses required for position.
Qualifications
- In-depth knowledge of Wealth Planning, etc.
- Expertise of the UHNW wealth management industry, including competition, usually acquired through formal education and experience.
- Knowledge of investments, banking, trust, and financial consulting concepts is necessary to identify cross-selling opportunities.
- Skills in negotiation, leadership, and sales are necessary to develop the client and prospect relationships and a partner network.
- Highly flexible and adaptable to change.
- Interprets internal/external business challenges and recommends best practices to improve products, processes, or services.
- Communicates difficult concepts and cooperates with others to potentially adopt a different point of view.
- Exceptional interpersonal, verbal, written, and presentation skills with ability to influence and negotiate.
- Demonstrated sales and business acumen.
- Proven track record of building collaborative and long-term relationships.

Pay
Salary range is a good faith estimate of base pay. The salary range for this role is $236,555 - 414,115 USD.
