About the Role

The Director of Human Resources directs and ensures the efficient administration and management of the Human Resources function, including recruiting, training, wage/benefit administration, compliance with statutory requirements, and employee relations activities. This role provides guidance and support to all departments to achieve customer service and business objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Leadership
    • Direct and instruct management staff in effective recruiting and interviewing techniques to ensure hiring and retention of qualified employees.
    • Develop, implement, and administer HR policies and programs to maintain a positive and productive employment environment.
    • Ensure compliance with all State and Federal laws, regulations, and court rulings related to Human Resources.
    • Supervise the EEOC program and control the administration of wages and benefits for accurate and equitable application.
    • Review and approve all personnel changes, including HR forms such as Personnel Authorizations and Employment Requisitions.
  • Building Relationships
    • Maintain open communication channels for all levels of staff, from line employees to the General Manager.
    • Plan and execute monthly rallies, annual awards/recognition, annual picnics, and other employee events.
    • Foster positive relationships between employees, supervisors, department heads, and the General Manager.
  • Generating Talent
    • Hire the best talent from both inside and outside the hotel, focusing on diversity, skills, and competencies.
    • Maintain succession planning and support hotel interviewing tools for talent-based hiring decisions.
    • Develop and maintain departmental orientation and training certification programs for new hires.
    • Manage progressive discipline procedures and ensure fair and consistent application of hotel policies.
    • Monitor employee performance appraisals to ensure timely and appropriate reviews.
    • Actively solicit feedback, address employee concerns, and improve employee retention.
    • Maintain an ongoing employee recognition program and celebrate team successes.
  • Organizational Leadership
    • Enliven the hotel culture by attending departmental stand-up meetings and communicating information in the absence of the General Manager.
  • Supportive Functions
    • Supervise, coordinate, and motivate department staff.
    • Monitor safety programs and Workers’ Compensation benefits.
    • Maintain all hotel personnel records and HR files with confidentiality.
    • Ensure prompt submission of corporate, divisional, and governmental reports.
    • Compose, type, and distribute HR correspondence, such as policy revisions.
    • Answer telephone inquiries and perform other duties as assigned by the General Manager, including tracking guest service scores and maintaining employee bulletin boards.

Requirements

  • High school diploma required; college degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 4 years of HR management experience.
  • Full-service hotel experience preferred.
  • Proven managerial skills, including decision-making, meeting deadlines, contract negotiations, and project coordination.

Skills

  • Ability to deal effectively with employees and representatives, demonstrating patience, tact, and diplomacy.
  • Thorough knowledge of HR practices, procedures, and State/Federal laws and regulations.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and leadership skills.
