About the role
The Director, Finance plays a crucial role in supporting the Child Study Center and departments of Pediatrics and Psychiatry at Yale. Reporting directly to the Senior Director for the Integrated Business Operations (IBO), this position oversees financial planning, reporting, budgeting, financial transactions, compensation administration, and workforce financial management.
Responsibilities
- Directs restricted funds activity.
- Influences and guides the direction of the process; recommends solutions appropriate to the goals of the University, the needs of the schools, and departments.
- Develops, recommends, and implements policies for the financial department.
- Collaborates on decision-making on these issues at the officer level.
- Participates in the development of the University’s annual and long range plans; develops, formulates and administers policies pertaining to the department.
- Ensures the allocation of processes for the departments are in compliance with University policies and guidelines.
- Supervises a staff of exempt employees.
- May perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Demonstrated expertise in financial management, including budgeting, forecasting, accounting, financial reporting and analysis, compensation administration, labor planning, internal controls, and the ability to interpret complex financial data and provide strategic recommendations.
- Strong technical and analytical skills with experience using financial and payroll systems and reporting tools, coupled with exceptional problem-solving, decision-making, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities, projects, and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to clearly present complex financial information to leadership and non-financial stakeholders, build collaborative relationships, and partner effectively across departments.
- Proven leadership and management experience, including developing high-performing teams, performance management, leading through change, promoting collaboration and employee engagement, and exercising sound judgment while maintaining confidentiality with sensitive financial and personnel information.
- Knowledge of finance operations within complex organizations, preferably in an academic medical center, healthcare, higher education, or similarly complex institutional environment.
Preferred Skills And Abilities
- Experience with Workday, Epic, YBT or similar enterprise platforms preferred.
- Advanced degree in business or finance (CPA, MBA, etc.) preferred.
