Relocation to the Sedalia, Missouri area required supporting Bothwell Regional Health Center.

About the role

The Director of Finance/Controller is responsible for the daily operations in financial accounting, accounts payable, and payroll; preparation of accurate and timely financial reports for hospital management and external parties; and coordinating all financial audits to ensure timely completion. The Director of Finance/Controller reports directly to the Chief Financial Officer.

Responsibilities

  • Directs the preparation and analysis of internal and external financial statements in conformance with generally accepted accounting principles. Ensures financial statements fairly report results of operation.
  • Manages the daily cash management operations of the Health Center, including movement of money between accounts, daily cash receipt activity, and monitoring market conditions. Recommends investment strategies to maximize returns and maintains investment policy.
  • Evaluates new or modified accounting systems to provide accurate reports of financial and operational activities. Supervises the installation of such systems.
  • Directs the development and maintenance of monthly revenue and expense monitoring tools.
  • Directs the annual preparation of the Medicare, Medicaid, and other payor cost reports.
  • Consults with management and consultants to compile data for accurate external reporting to regulatory agencies. Coordinates use of external consultants for reimbursement program analysis and appeals.
  • Directs the development of policies and procedures for proper accounting of capital expenditures (acquisition, transfer, and disposition).
  • Oversees the disbursement of Health Center’s funds through the Accounts Payable system and develops related policies and procedures.
  • Oversees the preparation, review, and distribution of W-2 and 1099 forms in compliance with IRS provisions.
  • Oversees the payroll processes of the Health Center and subsidiaries, ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations.
  • Reviews Health Center and subsidiary company activity to ensure accurate IRS reporting. Directs the preparation of timely and accurate Federal and State filings.
  • Directs the coordination of the annual audit with external auditors and actuaries. Assists in evaluation and selection of independent accounting firms.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Business with a major in Accounting from a recognized college or university.
  • CPA or MBA in Accounting is desired.
  • 3-5 years’ experience in accounting, preferably in a healthcare facility, with supervisory experience and proficiency in computerized general ledger systems.
