About the role

The Director of Finance/Controller is responsible for the daily operations in financial accounting, accounts payable, and payroll; preparation of accurate and timely financial reports for hospital management and external parties; and coordinating all financial audits to ensure timely completion. The Director of Finance/Controller reports directly to the Chief Financial Officer.

Responsibilities

  • Directs the preparation and analysis of internal and external financial statements in conformance with generally accepted accounting principles, ensuring they fairly report results of operation.
  • Manages daily cash management operations, including movement of money between accounts and daily cash receipt activity for the Health Center and its affiliates.
  • Monitors market conditions and reviews investment performance; recommends strategies to maximize returns and maintains investment policy.
  • Evaluates and supervises the installation of new or modified accounting systems to provide accurate financial and operational reports.
  • Directs the development and maintenance of monthly revenue and expense monitoring tools.
  • Directs the annual preparation of Medicare, Medicaid, and other payor cost reports.
  • Consults with management and consultants to compile data for accurate external reporting to regulatory agencies; coordinates use of external consultants for reimbursement program analysis and appeals.
  • Directs the development of policies and procedures for proper accounting of capital expenditures, including acquisition, transfer, and disposition.
  • Oversees the disbursement of Health Center funds through the Accounts Payable system and ensures effective and efficient accounts payable processes.
  • Oversees the preparation, review, and distribution of W-2 and 1099 forms in compliance with IRS provisions.
  • Oversees payroll processes for the Health Center and subsidiaries, ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations.
  • Reviews Health Center and subsidiary company activity to ensure accurate IRS reporting; directs preparation of timely and accurate Federal and State filings.
  • Directs the coordination of the annual audit with external auditors and actuaries; assists in evaluation and selection of independent accounting firms.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Business with a major in Accounting from a recognized college or university.
  • CPA or MBA in Accounting is desired.
  • 3-5 years’ experience in accounting, preferably in a healthcare facility, with supervisory experience and proficiency in computerized general ledger systems.

Working Conditions

  • Works in a well-lighted and ventilated office environment.
  • Subject to frequent interruptions; generally sedentary position.
  • Must be able to work necessary hours to complete all projects within established time requirements.
