About the role

The Director Facilities Engineering oversees the maintenance, operations, and control of the physical plant, buildings, and dependent equipment at Community North Hospital and associated facilities. This includes overseeing large-scale capital projects and ongoing growth planning.

Responsibilities

  • Oversight and responsibilities include large scale capital projects and ongoing growth planning within the Community North Hospital campus, including specialty hospitals, surgery centers, behavioral health units, and cancer centers.
  • Ensures compliance with regulatory and accreditation requirements related to buildings, systems, and codes.
  • Maintains safety and reliability of building systems to support patient care.
  • Directs maintenance departments to operate efficiently and cost-effectively.
  • Coordinates with Network counterparts to ensure consistent, patient-centered practices across the organization.
  • Develops and implements innovative solutions to improve operations and productivity.
  • Manages building system or equipment capital projects in conjunction with Network facility project managers.
  • Determines and implements the most cost-effective, long-term solutions for functional or operational deficiencies in building systems and equipment.
  • Participates in the facilities design process to create an optimal environment for patient care.
  • Acts as a member of the Network Facilities Project Team or relevant hospital committees, including the Chairperson of the CHS Space Planning Committee.

Qualifications

  • 4-year / Bachelor's Degree: Bachelor degree required, preferably in Facilities Management, Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, or Health Sciences.
  • Certifications/Licenses: Certified Healthcare Facility Manager (CHFM) or other nationally recognized certification pertaining to Facilities.
  • Minimum of ten (10) years’ experience in healthcare facilities management, building design, construction, and operations.
  • Knowledgeable of applicable laws, codes, and requirements of regulatory, insurance, and inspecting agencies.
  • Ability to communicate Network mission, vision, and strategic directions to employees and other customers.
  • Experience in developing and achieving departmental goals and objectives, measuring progress, and addressing variances.
  • Experience in quality improvement principles and practice.
  • Experience in managing labor, material, and equipment resources to improve productivity and quality while minimizing cost.
  • Experience in developing and maintaining employee workforces in a manner that promotes a productive, quality-conscious work climate.
  • Experience in administering personnel-related policies and programs in a fair and consistent manner.
  • Experience in developing and implementing dynamic performance appraisal programs.
  • Experience in identifying and addressing employees' developmental needs and providing opportunities for individual improvement.
  • Experience in utilizing participative management techniques to gather and implement employee input into department and hospital operations.
  • Experience in recommending and managing building system or equipment capital projects.
