Director, Electric Utilities

About the role

STACK INFRASTRUCTURE (STACK) provides digital infrastructure to scale the world’s most innovative companies. We are an award-winning industry leader in building, owning, and operating highly efficient, cost-effective wholesale, colocation, and cloud data centers. The Director, Electric Utilities will report to the Vice President, Electric Utilities and will be responsible for developing and executing on near-term and long-term strategies to help the STACK Development team integrate data center projects.

Responsibilities

• Manage the load-interconnection process and serve as a primary point of contact with the utility for the data center projects
• Own, cultivate and manage utility relationships and foster a collaborative relationship
• Document the utility’s load interconnection process as it relates to any financial commitments, cost responsibilities, duration of the various steps of the process, and understand when power commitments are secured during the process
• Support reviews of any utility contracts related to the project
• Forecast and manage utility budgets for their projects
• Support leasing activities with the ultimate goal of understanding
• Work closely with development team to develop the business case for each project
• Support review and vetting of potential datacenter sites to assess viability of power delivery timeframes from the utility
• Identify and develop new near-term and long-term strategies in conjunction with the Vice President, Transmission Strategy to continually improve internal processes
• Develop an understanding of the planning practices of the utilities and ISO/RTO in assigned geographical regions
• Support relationship management with the utilities and RTO/ISOs to support project-specific efforts
• Collaborate with STACK Energy and STACK Policy teams to work with external stakeholders to create new processes or improve existing processes to support data center integration
• Prepare presentations, track market activity, and provide weekly and biweekly reports
• Collaborate with other business units supporting STACK Development as necessary
• Aid in the preparation of business cases and recommendations for leadership approval
• Other duties as assigned

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or a related field preferred
• 10+ Years experience in the energy space (with a utility, a consulting firm, renewable energy company, etc)
• Proficient in Microsoft Office product suite
• Strong analytical, detail-oriented, creative thinking, and communication skills
• Comfort creating processes and implementing strategies and procedures that serve an organization
• Ability to execute, process, and prioritize tasks with minimal-to-no supervision
• Ability to manage multiple projects and collaborate with internal staff, external consultants, vendors, and other stakeholders

Skills

The ideal candidate will have experience with owning and managing external relationships, experience in the energy industry – in particular load interconnection processes, the ability to translate and communicate technical issues to non-technical team members, and a strong ability to identify issues and provide problem solving strategies.

Pay

Compensation Range $209,300.00 - $234,600.00

Schedule

Location: Denver, CO, or within 1 hour of any STACK site in our central region (Dallas, Chicago, New Albany, San Francisco, Virginia, and Atlanta). Travel: 10-20%
