POSITION OVERVIEW

The Director of Electrical Services role at LJA Utilities is responsible for leading and expanding the electrical engineering practice, focusing on power transmission and distribution (T&D).

REQUIRED EDUCATION/LICENSE/CERTIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor of Science, Civil Engineering is required
  • Registration as a Licensed Professional Engineer is required

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • 15+ years of specialized experience
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to build strong relationships

BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT & CLIENT RELATIONS

  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities in electrical transmission and distribution
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with utilities, municipalities, and private clients
  • Lead proposal development, interviews, and contract negotiations
  • Collaborate with other service lines to cross-sell and expand client engagements

TECHNICAL OVERSIGHT

  • Provide senior-level guidance on design and execution of T&D projects (substations, transmission lines, distribution systems)
  • Ensure projects meet quality standards, budgets, and schedules
  • Stay current with industry trends, codes, and emerging technologies

AVERAGE DAY

  • Applies knowledge of engineering principles and practices in broad areas using advanced techniques, theory, precepts and practices in the water resources field.
  • Plans, coordinates, designs and directs projects with many complex features consisting of wastewater treatment plants, water supply plant design, sewage lift / pump station and force main design, water transmission lines, and storm water lift stations for both public works clients and municipal utility districts.
  • Leads and participates with peers in business development efforts to grow the business from the ground up.
  • Conform with and abide by all regulations, policies, work procedures and instructions.
  • Conform to all safety rules and use all appropriate safety equipment.
  • Communicate and meet with various City Councils and Public Works staff.
  • Build, lead, and mentor a team of electrical engineers and designers.
  • Develop performance expectations, provide coaching, and foster professional development.
  • Recruit, hire, and retain top engineering talent.
  • Develop pipelines for future staffing needs.
  • Lead onboarding and integration of new team members.
