Director, Business Development
Position Summary
The position has responsibility for leading and managing the business strategy for Rhodes Pharmaceuticals' growth through business development activities as well as value creation through identification of pipeline assets. This role will work with internal multifunctional teams to identify and evaluate product opportunities and advance project recommendations forward for review.
Core Responsibilities

Lead and execute all aspects of business development initiatives including partnering strategy and execution of collaboration, in-licensing and out-licensing agreements that fit with business strategy and the organization's long-range plans.

Identify and evaluate strategic business opportunities: out-licensing and in-licensing, and industry partnerships, M&As, alliances, and joint ventures.

Work closely with senior management team to evaluate current and future business development and market opportunities.

Prepare business development documents and presentations. Develop, participate and deliver high level impactful presentations and conclusions to senior management, key prospects and stakeholders.

Participate in deal structuring and support negotiation activities.

Search and identify potential partners in accordance with business development strategy, establish and maintain a broad network relationships.

With support from the Law Department staff, develop Confidential Disclosure Agreements (CDAs) to support the evaluation and negotiation processes, term sheets, and definitive agreements with the third party.

Identify the critical needs of the third party and work with internal groups to identify creative solutions to meet the needs of both parties.

Work closely with the Marketing, Regulatory, Finance, Legal, and Product Development to evaluate the product opportunity. Coordinate the distribution of information to the team, meetings with third parties to present opportunities, and inputs into the opportunity evaluation as information becomes available.

Attend industry-wide conferences. Identify and meet with others working in areas of interest to Rhodes to establish a relationship, learn about their business, and consider future or current opportunities to work together.

Attend investor conferences to learn about progress in products currently in development and corporate strategy. Attend competitor presentations to learn of strategic intent and development progress of Rhodes’ competitors.

Participate in appropriate company Business Development and Product Selection Committee Meetings.

Manage competitive industry intelligence information – e.g., IMS data, FDA approvals, market assessments, etc.

Remain current on industry news for the purposes of identifying appropriate opportunities and to understand the changing dynamics of the industry.

Assist with identifying and evaluating working with CMO’s and CRO’s to complete development projects. Assist with negotiations to acquire products.

In conjunction with outside and in-house counsel, provide review of licensing agreements, co-development agreements and co-promotional agreements.
Education and Experience
- A Master of Business Administration degree or equivalent, and/or considerable experience in technology evaluation and licensing.
- 18 plus years’ experience in the biotech/pharmaceutical industry, with five years in a licensing or business development role in generic pharmaceuticals.
Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
- Knowledge of licensing and business development, with emphasis on the generic pharmaceutical market.
- Knowledge of technology and market assessment methodologies, including legal assessment and product evaluation techniques (e.g., competitive and comparative analyses).
- Knowledge of financial valuation techniques used to assess potential business deals.
- Knowledge of contracting principles, including licensing agreement structures and key provisions.
- Knowledge of pharmaceutical dosage forms and related development techniques.
- Working knowledge of legal frameworks related to licensing, co-development, and co-promotional agreements.
- Strong negotiation skills, including the ability to influence and secure favorable outcomes.
- Project and team management skills, with the ability to coordinate cross-functional efforts.
- Interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with individuals from diverse cultures and professional disciplines.
- Skills in drafting, reviewing, and interpreting complex agreements and contracts.
- Analytical skills to support due diligence activities and evaluate business opportunities.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and support licensing and business development initiatives.
- Ability to conduct comprehensive due diligence and synthesize findings into actionable insights.
- Ability to evaluate products, technologies, and markets to inform strategic decision-making.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and drive projects to completion in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders, including legal, technical, and commercial teams.
Physical and Environmental Requirements
- This position is primarily sedentary and performed in an office or professional work environment.
- The ability to sit for extended periods, use a computer and other office equipment, communicate effectively, and occasionally move within the work area.
- This position is primarily office-based with occasional travel required, including overnight travel as needed.
Supervisory Requirements
(if applicable) This position may provide functional guidance, project leadership, or mentoring to team members but does not have direct supervisory responsibility.
