About the role
The Director of Business Development will drive growth initiatives within the defense sector, identifying new market opportunities, developing relationships with key stakeholders, and leading proposal efforts for securing multimillion-dollar contracts.
Responsibilities
- Identify and pursue new business opportunities within the defense sector.
- Develop and maintain relationships with government agencies, defense contractors, and international clients.
- Lead proposal development efforts for large-scale government and commercial contracts.
- Conduct market research, competitive analysis, and strategic planning to expand market share.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop competitive proposals and solutions.
- Manage and expand strategic partnerships to ensure sustainable growth.
- Support contract negotiations and ensure compliance with government regulations including ITAR, FAR, and DFARS.
- Provide leadership and guidance to the business development team.
- Prepare and present reports on market trends, pipeline, and forecasted revenue.
- Represent the company at industry events, conferences, and client meetings.
Requirements
- 8-10+ years of business development experience within defense, aerospace, or related industries.
- Proven success in securing large government or commercial contracts.
- Strong knowledge of defense industry regulations (ITAR, FAR, DFARS).
- Exceptional negotiation, strategic thinking, and communication skills.
- Experience with CRM systems, GOVWIN, SAMS, and project management tools.
- Demonstrated ability to manage complex stakeholder relationships.
- Passion for defense technology and international markets.
Skills
- Nice-to-haves include experience with munitions technology or defense hardware, international sales experience, familiarity with FMS (Foreign Military Sales), existing network within defense agencies and international clients, knowledge of export compliance and industrial participation programs, and fluency in additional languages relevant to defense markets.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, or related field required; Master’s preferred.

Salary range: $190,000 to $200,000 annually.
