About the role
The Director of Advancement Services / EWU Foundation Controller joins a team dedicated to making resources available to the university that help ensure students receive an affordable, quality education and achieve their Eastern degrees, and to principles of continuous improvement. This role is responsible for the financial functions of University Advancement and the EWU Foundation financial operations, including advancement and Foundation accounting, budgeting, gift processing, CRM/database administration, financial and fundraising reporting, prospect management, prospect research, and information systems. The position oversees Advancement Services staff and serves as a finance and budget liaison to various campus departments, organizations, and committees, including the University Budget Committee, Data Management Committee, IT Project Prioritization Committee, EWUAA, and EAF.
This leader analyzes and leverages data to inform organizational strategy across finances, investment of Foundation funds, uses of donated funds, and revenue forecasting. The position ensures the processing and recording of all philanthropic gifts and implements practices for timely, accurate donor acknowledgment, recognition, and stewardship reporting.
Responsibilities
- Ensure finance and operations controls and policies are established and observed, with effective follow-up processes in place.
- Ensure EWU Foundation compliance with all federal, state, local, and internal policies, completing relevant filings in a timely manner.
- Manage and monitor all methods of receiving, controlling, and receipting items of value on behalf of the Foundation, including checks, cash, securities, credit cards, online charges, and gift-in-kinds.
- Oversee Gift Processing, including pledge entry and receipt generation.
- Ensure appropriate review and timely payment of accounts payable.
- Manage ongoing banking relationships for maximum efficiency.
- Develop cash flow forecasting and maintain a long-term cash forecast.
- Assist and lead the EWU Foundation Investment Committee with endowment portfolio performance and facilitate communications between the asset management firm and the committee.
- Responsible for all financial reporting for the Foundation, including preparing and presenting monthly, quarterly, and year-to-date financials with accompanying analysis.
- Lead Finance and Audit Committee meetings and provide financial presentations.
- Prepare campaign and fundraising reports for the EWU Foundation.
- Maintain up-to-date account balance information for all Foundation accounts.
- Prepare annual unrestricted operating and endowment reports.
- Represent Advancement as a finance and budget liaison to various campus departments, organizations, and committees.
- Analyze and leverage data to inform organizational strategy across finances, investment of Foundation funds, uses of donated funds, and revenue forecasting.
- Oversee the processing and recording of all philanthropic gifts, ensuring practices are in place for timely, accurate donor acknowledgment, recognition, and stewardship reporting.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree.
- Seven (7) years of full-time, professional experience in financial statement preparation and accounting management, including fund accounting.
- Five (5) years of supervisory experience.
- Demonstrated interpersonal, presentation, and strong writing skills.
- Interest, ability, and/or experience promoting cultural competency, universal accessibility, and/or diversity.
- Proven ability to multi-task and meet deadlines.
- Proficiency with computer applications (e.g., Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Proven track record of successfully working with donors and boards, and a strong understanding of board regulations and reporting.
- Experience in successful relationship building with colleagues, volunteers, and board members, and in board governance in a non-profit accounting environment.
- Demonstrated ability to apply a responsive and flexible approach supportive of universal access for students, faculty, staff, and the public.
- Authorization to work for any employer in the U.S. (sponsorship is not available for this position).
- Compliance with EWU Immunization Policy 602-02, providing proof of immunity or vaccination to MMR before beginning work (waivers available for medical or sincerely held religious beliefs).
- Successful completion of a background check prior to employment, as this position involves accountability for university funds and unsupervised access to vulnerable populations.

- Experience working in higher education or a non-profit organization.
- CPA certification.

Pay
$113,516 - $158,923 annually. Placement within this range depends on education, experience, and skills.
Schedule
- Regular, full-time position.
- Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
- Evening and weekend on-call responsibilities required.
- 12-month appointment.
