About the Role
This position oversees the daily operations of the admissions division, ensuring efficient workflow, staff competency, and adherence to hospital policies and safety standards.
Responsibilities
- Assessment
- Assess competency of staff members, identify areas of improvement, and assist in developing educational opportunities.
- Routinely inspect the division to ensure the safety of patients, visitors, and personnel.
- Assess the need for supplies and order appropriately according to area needs.
- Evaluate registration activities to provide indicators for continuous quality improvement.
- Planning
- Plan and prepare time schedules for staff to complete necessary assignments accurately and on time.
- Plan for the effective use of available staff.
- Develop and coordinate orientation plans for staff within units.
- Plan and assist in the orientation of new personnel to the unit.
- Implementation
- Facilitate positive relationships among supervised staff and with other departments.
- Supervise work performance on a daily basis.
- Complete employee evaluations objectively and in a timely manner.
- Provide employee counseling or in-service training to correct deviations from standards, policies, or procedures.
- Instruct personnel regarding hospital and division policies and procedures.
- Conduct monthly unit meetings using Performance Improvement monitors and Report Cards to communicate issues and operational updates.
- Collaborate with the CFO and Human Resources to make decisions concerning hiring, transfer, or discharge of employees.
- Provide appropriate documentation in a timely manner.
- Review financial and registration reports within units to identify problems requiring intervention.
- Admit patients and cover shifts as necessary.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the CFO.
- Evaluation
- Supervise and evaluate work performance, adherence to hospital policies, and staff development.
- Counsel personnel and take appropriate action regarding personal or professional issues affecting division operations.
- Review and evaluate department policies and procedures, initiating development and revision processes as needed.
- Self Development
- Participate in activities designed to improve hospital and department services.
- Assume responsibility for personal growth and development of management skills.
- Maintain knowledge of computer system failure and emergency plans (e.g., fire, disaster, bomb threats).
Requirements
- Experience
- Minimum of 3 years of admissions or supervisory experience, including direct supervisory responsibilities.
- Education
- High School Diploma (required).
- Bachelor’s Degree (preferred).
- Certification
- Must obtain NAHAM Certification within 15 months of hire.
