Job Summary

The mission of Job Path is to support autistic people and people with developmental disabilities as they make choices about their lives and play valued roles in their communities. We are seeking energetic, responsible, and creative people to provide one-on-one support in various community settings in Brooklyn, Queens, Manhattan, and the Bronx.

About the Role

We are particularly looking for Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) to work with participants who are new to JobPath as they are coming in through our transitional programs. The Community Connections program focuses on ensuring that people with developmental disabilities are visible in society and are recognized as equal citizens.

Responsibilities

  • Provide individualized supports to connect people to their communities and help them become contributing community members
  • Work with family and community members to develop connections to community organizations
  • Assist with volunteer jobs, classes, social events, and other community activities
  • Help individuals achieve their personal and professional goals
  • Build self-esteem by engaging in shared activities
  • Encourage individuals to make choices and decisions in all areas of their lives
  • Support people in social situations to feel comfortable and confident with others
  • Put aside personal beliefs to ensure the person you are supporting has the opportunity to have the life they want
  • Ensure clear, concise, and honest communication with supervisor
  • Offer support, respect, and feedback to other team members
  • Attend staff meetings and contribute professionally
  • Share and contribute ideas, knowledge, and questions
  • Be aware of and competent in dealing with medical needs, such as seizures, health concerns, and allergies
  • Provide physical supports, such as pushing a wheelchair or helping a person to eat, in a dignified and respectful manner
  • Complete case notes, monthly summary notes, and timesheets via online portals by assigned deadlines
  • Follow up with required documentation as detailed by your supervisor

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Written and spoken English proficiency
  • Prior experience a plus, but not essential
  • Sensitivity to the needs and preferences of people with disabilities
  • Basic computer skills, including ability to respond to emails, submit electronic timesheets, and complete case notes through an electronic health record system

Pay

$19.44 per hour
