Direct Support Professional Overnight

About the role

Location: Chittenango, NY

In the residential program, trained staff provide 24-hour supervision, care, and guidance to residents. They assist with personal care needs, cleaning, cooking, medications, and activities. The Direct Support Professional Residential Overnight assists in providing self-care training, therapeutic treatments, and assistance in daily living to developmentally disabled individuals attending the agency's respite facility.

Responsibilities

• Must stay awake and not place themselves in a compromising position/place that is conducive to sleep
• Continuously assess the status of the physical building and the individuals throughout the duration of the shift
• Provide individualized care as outlined in the individual's Life Plan or ISP
• Support residents to ensure their safety and well-being
• Observe, document, and communicate pertinent information such as behaviors, nursing, nutrition, clinical issues, etc., to facilitate assessment and development of treatment goals
• Give medications as prescribed by Physician, per OPWDD regulations
• Administer therapeutic activities, such as physical exercises, occupational arts and crafts, and recreational games to residents and document accordingly
• Demonstrate and assist with activities such as bathing and dressing to train residents in daily self-care practices
• Document delivery of residential habilitation services per the individual plan and agency procedures
• Converse with residents to reinforce positive behaviors and to promote social interaction
• Prepare and serve meals and dine with residents to act as a role model
• Assist residents in mobility, hygiene, and any other tasks in which assistance or direction is necessary

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED required
• Experience working in human services or with individuals with functional differences preferred
• Valid NY State driver's license with a driving record acceptable to the agency's insurance carrier
• Ability to lift and assist with up to 50 pounds, including transfers and physical support

Pay

• Hourly rate: $20.00
• Sign-on bonus up to $1,000

Schedule

• Full-time, awake overnight shifts
